Surprisingly, in NBA 2K’s MyCareer mode, getting traded to another team has different requirements or methods for almost every title. Can You Request a Trade in NBA 2K25’s MyCareer Mode?

The NBA 2K series prides itself on its MyCareer mode. They invest heavily in this mode, which has been one of the most played modes in the game since Derrick Rose’s prime season. Every 2K fan remembers that NBA 2K Draft Combine demo. Ever since then, they have continued to build on the “MyPlayer” career by introducing unique storylines.

When you play MyCareer mode in NBA 2K25, you immediately go to the NBA with Patrick, who gives you a brief rundown of what happened. You have the hard choice of choosing any NBA team to play for, but you’ll have to choose the team wisely because it’ll take at least two seasons before you can request a trade in MyCareer mode (unless they change it with an update). Choosing the best team in MyCareer for your player is crucial because you can’t change it unless you create another player.

The game wants you to experience the full storyline before you can leave your team. I mean, it does make sense because rookies on rookie contracts never have the leverage to request anything absurd like a trade when they are just starting out in the NBA.

Since the game’s story picks up on the Heart of the Dynasty storyline, you want to see the story play throughout your rookie career. You’ll need to bring championships to your team before you can request a trade. Finish all the “Franchise Player” quest lines, and this should put you on track to request a trade feature.

Fans have found a workaround: You can change teams and leave in free agency. But you can only leave your team through free agencies when your contract is up, so it’ll take two full seasons before you can use this method. So, better get your player to a 99 rating and win that championship convincingly to request a trade as fast as possible.
