How to Get a 99 Rating in NBA 2K25

Face of the league!

Everyone who plays NBA 2K25 wants to see their player become the best to ever play the game. The first step to being the greatest, aside from all the accolades, is reaching the coveted 99 overall rating for their player. It is a tough task, but this is the pinnacle goal of your player because this is the maximum rating you can have for your player. So, how do players get a 99 overall rating in NBA 2K25? It is possible, so here’s how to do it.

How Do You Get a 99 Overall Rating in NBA 2K25?

When you start creating your player, you’ll adjust all your player’s attributes until you reach the maximum 99 overall rating. You’ll allocate a certain number of attributes, and you cannot max out every single attribute. After setting this up, this will be the maximum potential of your player.

Then, you’ll start your player at a default 60 overall rating after finishing all the customizations. At this phase, you have the option to upgrade your player through the progression screen in MyCareer’s main menu. Upgrade your attributes using VC, but you’ll have two problems: VC is hard to get, and there’s a cap on a newly created player’s potential through the MyPoints system.

Even if you have all the VCs, you’ll still need to uncap your player through MyPoints. If you have already uncapped your player’s MyPoints to the maximum level, you still need thousands of VC to max out your player’s attributes. Let’s break these two aspects down so you know the best way to reach the 99 overall rating for your player.

How to Get MyPoints Fast in NBA 2K25

For a quick explanation on MyPoints, this is your player’s overall uncapped potential. All fresh players start with a maximum overall rating potential of 85, but as you play and earn MyPoints, you’ll get that potential cap to 99 eventually. If you play a game, you’ll get a certain number of MyPoints for your player. At the end of each game, you’ll see your MyPoints bar on the upper-left side progressing. Once it reaches full, it’ll reset, but you’ll earn an additional point to your max overall rating cap.

The best way to earn MyPoints is to play as many games as possible while performing tasks and objectives or basically just racking up the stat sheet every single game. You can lower the minutes per quarter on each MyCareer game, but make sure you are maximizing your minutes by doing as many positive things on the court to improve your teammate’s grade.

It is best to earn your starter spot first before decreasing the minutes per quarter setting. You might only see a few minutes of playing time per game if you are on the default 5-minute per quarter games. That’s not enough to get an A- or above teammate grade and stuff the stat sheet.

How to Get VC Fast in NBA 2K25

While you are uncapping your player’s maximum overall rating, you also want to get as much VC as possible so you can level up your attributes. VC earnings work the same as MyPoints, and you can increase your VC earnings by adjusting the game setting to all-star and above. If you play on all-star, you’ll get a 20% base multiplier to your MyPoints and VC earnings.

However, it’ll be much harder to play better on a higher difficulty, especially since your teammates will also play dumber on a higher difficulty.

The best way to maximize VC earnings is to play a difficulty game in which you can finish consistently on a high teammate grade while reducing the amount of time played per game. For example, if you can get an A teammate grade with a lot of additional stats in a 5-minute game on pro difficulty, it would be better than getting a B grade in a 10-minute game on all-star difficulty (assuming you struggle on this difficulty and B or B+ would be your average grade).

It is best to do quick game finishes, but it is still up to the player’s preference. Since this is your player’s career and you might want more immersion, you’d want to play on a higher minutes per quarter setting so your stats feel realistic to the NBA itself. There’s nothing wrong with that. Through playing longer games, you may even level up your badges faster in NBA 2K25.

Once you have the MyPoints and VC aspects down, this will be the ultimate grind to get your player to a 99 rating. Online play using your player also helps, but there are a lot of unpredictable events that could happen here. It is still best to play MyCareer to get a 99 rating.
