How to Preload Hogwarts Legacy

While this was only available for Xbox Series X|S players for a while, it recently became available for everyone on PlayStation 5 and PC too. The process of doing this differs slightly from platform to platform, but regardless, it all leads to the same outcome of saving several hours of downloading.

If you’ve already preordered Hogwarts Legacy for Xbox Series X|S, you can head right onto your console, select the game in your library and begin downloading. While using your Xbox, there’s a chance the game has already started downloading automatically.

If you don’t own the game yet, don’t worry. There’s another option available.

Preloading Through Mobile

An alternative method is to use the Xbox app on iPhone or Android to download the game directly to your console. This allows you to preload the game without actually purchasing it. However, you won’t actually be able to play until you buy it and wait until launch day.

You can take the following steps to preload Hogwarts Legacy through the Xbox mobile app:

  • Download the Xbox app for iPhone or Android
  • Open it and search for Hogwarts Legacy in the search bar
  • Select Hogwarts Legacy Xbox Series X|S Version and tap Download to Console.
  • Pick Install to this Console. Make sure you have your Xbox X or S attached to the account.

How to Preload Hogwarts Legacy Through PC (Steam)

If you’re not planning on playing Hogwarts Legacy on console, you can also access preloading through Steam on your PC. To do this, head to your game library and select Hogwarts Legacy. From here, you’ll find the Preload button, where download and play are usually located, next to the space required part of the status bar. Tap this, confirm your installation location, and press next to start your download!
