How to Increase the Friendship Bar in Disney Dreamlight Valley
After talking to an NPC, you’ll have the option to give them gifts! From here, your inventory will appear alongside the character’s “Favorite Things of the Day”. If you have their favorite item, you can gift it to them to drastically increase their friendship bar! Otherwise, you can give a random item in your inventory.

After giving your gift, the NPC will receive some friendship points, filling up a pink bar above their head. There are numerous benefits to increasing friendship bars in Disney Dreamlight Valley:
- You’ll gain experience, increasing your overall level and expanding your energy reserves.
- You can choose roles for your village friends after reaching friendship level two, allowing them to perform activities such as mining, fishing and farming!
- The more friends you level up and assign to various roles, the more Hangout Bonuses you’ll stack.
- You’ll unlock character-related side stories that give exclusive cosmetics, furniture and other items.
- Leveling up character friendships is required for certain quests, including one in the main story.
Giving NPCs their favorite gifts is the most effective way to fill friendship bars. However, it isn’t always easy to find these early on! If you don’t have a character’s favorite items, gifting flowers is a fantastic alternative. They are plentiful around the map and will significantly raise your friendship with whoever you give them to. While other items, such as cooking ingredients or crafting items, may slightly increase the bar, flowers are by far one of the best and easiest ways to do it quickly in the early game.
