How to Get Volcarona in Pokemon GO

Gotta hatch 'em all

While there are plenty of excellent Bug-type creatures in the world of Pokemon GO, none have been quite as hotly requested as Larvesta & Volcarona, and for good reason. As a dual Fire/Bug-type, many of the original weaknesses that a standard Bug-type creature has are gone, so you’ll have a formidable ally on your side. But, how are you able to get your hands on this Pokemon? Do you need a huge net or just a lot of luck? Let’s gather up our gear and find out how to get Volcarona in Pokemon GO.

How To Get Larvesta In Pokemon GO

If you’re hoping to get your hands on a Larvesta, you’re going to need to get outside and start making some tracks with an egg or two in Incubators. The only way to currently get your hands on Larvesta is by hatching one, but thankfully, they can be found in all egg groups. The only problem is, Larvesta has a 2% hatch rate, making it one of the hardest creatures to hatch currently. You’re going to need to get out there and make the magic happen if you’re hoping to finally add one to your party.

How To Evolve Larvesta Into Volcarona In Pokemon GO

If you’re one of the lucky players that have hatched a Larvesta in a few tries, you’re still going to need to put in a fair bit of work before you can finally claim a Volcarona of your own. The first thing to note is that you’ll need 400 Candies to finally get one of these powerful Pokemon, so even if you get lucky and hatch a Larvesta out of a 10km Egg, you’ll need to hatch another 13 of them from that same group if you’re lucky enough to get the most candy each time. Here are the amounts of candy you can get from each hatch:

  • 2km – 5 to 15
  • 5km – 10 to 21
  • 10km – 16 to 32

So, if luck is your middle name and you somehow manage to hatch 13 Larvesta in a row without breaking the streak and get maximum candy every time, you’ll be able to get your hands on a Volcarona with ease. You’ll just need to walk at least 130km, or 80 miles to get it. That’s not a low chance or anything, right?

If you’re looking to play the long game, however, you can always set your Larvesta as your buddy Pokemon and start amassing Candy this way. It’s going to take a lot longer, sure, but at least you can get one without relying completely on luck.

Can Larvesta or Volcarona Be Shiny In Pokemon GO?

With a Pokemon this rare, it’s understandable to want to get a Shiny Version of it. While Shiny Pokemon may not offer any sort of combat advantage, you’ll still find that getting your favorite creature with a new color scheme is always exciting. Unfortunately, for those going on a hatching spree, the search is all for naught, as there is currently no Shiny variant available for Larvesta or Volcarona. You could hold onto your Larvesta Candy until a new variant is available, but you may be waiting for a while.

Can You Capture Volcarona In Raid Battles?

Currently, the only way to get your hands on this line of Pokemon is via the egg-hatching method. They are not available in the wild in any way, shape, or form. This may change in the future, but trainers that are looking to complete their Pokedex earlier than others will need to rely on luck and plenty of movement.
