How to Get Shiny Rockruff in Pokemon GO

Do you prefer your Rockruff on two paws or four?

It’s a sad fact, but one of the cutest dog Pokemon is extremely hard to find. I’m speaking, of course, about Rockruff. The Rock-Type dog who can evolve into two different hounds, based on the time he’s evolved. But did you know you can also catch this pup in its Shiny form? Here’s how to get Shiny Rockruff in Pokemon GO.

If you manage to find a Shiny Rockruff, you’ll see this pup in a cute shade of cobalt blue, with its normally bright blue eyes turning into a fetching shade of chartreuse. But actually encountering a Shiny Rockruff is fairly difficult.

Rockruff is primarily through two methods: by hatching 10 km eggs or by encountering one in 1-Star Raids. Because raids are always in rotation, this can mean that it’s very difficult to encounter Rockruff, making eggs your best bet.

But there’s a huge pool of Pokemon a 10 km egg can hatch into, meaning that the odds are rarely in your favor. Especially if you’re trying to Shiny Hunt. Fortunately, there’s an upcoming event that will make finding Shiny Rockruff much easier!

Rockruff will be appearing as a 1-Star Raid boss as part of the Festival of Color, which will begin on March 8, 10:00 AM to March 14, 10:00 AM local time. Of course, not all 1-Star raids will feature this cute rock pup. There’s also a chance you’ll run into Mareanie, Bruxish, and Espurr. So check back often!

Once you see a Rockruff in the raid, feel free to challenge it even if you’re by yourself. 1-Star raid Pokemon tend to be easy for even solo-trainers to take down.

Unfortunately, Rockruff does not have increased odds of being found Shiny, meaning there’s only a 1 in 500 chance of encountering one in its blue-form. But your odds are still better this way than hatching 10 km eggs and hoping for the best!

Good luck getting a Shiny Rockruff! And while you’re at it, here’s how to get ready for Shiny Smeargle.
