Every Tears of the Kingdom player is bound to gather an overflowing inventory of items during their time within Hyrule, and while a lot of these items are pretty straightforward in terms of their use, sometimes you might be stuck at a loose end and not know exactly how to use something. The general rule of thumb is whichever item you pick up, be it for a meal or something you can fuse to a weapon, there’s a use for it in close proximity.
For a lot of items you can fuse to things like arrows, there’s always a reason they are nearby, which is important to remember when it comes to clearing up any sludge you might come across during the adventure. Here’s how to remove the sludge in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Remove the Sludge in Tears of the Kingdom
The key to removing sludge in Tears of the Kingdom is by using Splash Fruit, which can, fortunately, be found all across Hyrule and especially in the direction of Zora’s Domain and around Lanayru. Growing on small bushes in the same way as Dazzlefruit and Shock Fruit, Splash Fruit takes a pear-like shape and can be fused to arrows or thrown on its own.
Fusing Splash Fruit with an arrow and aiming it directly at the sludge you’re clearing will cause the fruit to explode and wash away patches of sludge. Chances are, if you’re attempting to clear up Zora’s Domain and the surrounding areas, you’ll need a significant bounty of Splash Fruit since they can only clear patches at a time, but you shouldn’t be in short supply given how common they are.

In addition to being fused to arrows, Splash Fruit can also be thrown and shot with an arrow or hit with a weapon to cause it to explode and wash away the sludge. Essentially, this method works in the same way as fusing to an arrow, but you’ll save on arrows. However, if you’re particularly stuck and don’t have any Splash Fruit or arrows to your name, you can also use a Hydrant Zonai Device as a sort of watering can to clear the sludge. They are much more efficient and timely than relying on Splash Fruit, but as you can imagine are slightly harder to come by and typically more expensive in terms of materials.
