Diablo 4: How to Get Igneous Cores

Get to the core of Malphas

Before you can start battling the Echo of Malphas in Diablo 4, you need to collect a handful of Igneous Cores within the Season of the Construct. They won’t be easy to collect if you’re just starting, but I’ll explain how you can find them.

How to Farm Igneous Cores in Diablo 4

Igneous Cores are earned by killing summoned Heralds of Malphas at Arcane Tremors in World Tier 4 or the Son of Malphas Boss in Nightmare Vaults. Considering the Son of Malphas is entirely randomized based on the construct areas of Season 3, your best bet is to start summoning Heralds of Malphas at Braziers around Sanctuary.

Each of the five major zones in Diablo 4 Season 3 has at least one area dedicated to Arcane Tremors. Within each Tremor are at least three braziers that can be used to summon Heralds of Malphas. Whether it’s a Voltaic Brazier or an Igneous Brazier shouldn’t matter. However, I decided to use an Igneous Brazier in the Kehjistan Arcane Tremor for my first few Igenous Cores.

Where to Find Igneous Cores in Diablo 4:

  • Kill Heralds of Malphas in World Tier 4 Arcane Tremors.
  • Defeat the Son of Malphas in Nightmare Vaults or Tremors.

Once you find a Brazier, just place three Elemental Cores and 50 Shattered Stone into the summoning spot. A horde of constructs will appear, and at the end of all the waves, a Herald of Malphas will appear. Kill the Herald for a chance to get an Igneous Core as a quest item. Don’t worry if you don’t see one the first time. Herlads don’t drop a core every single time, so it just means it’s time to grind.

While you’re traveling around Arcane Tremors or Nightmare Vaults, you also have a chance to encounter the Son of Malphas. This upgraded version of the Butcher can also give you an Igneous Core as a reward for victory. Just remember that you need to be in World Tier 4 to get this item to drop in Diablo 4.

Don’t get discouraged if he doesn’t drop one right away. Both the Son of Malphas and the Vault Heralds only have a chance of dropping cores. I found that I could get a core about half the time or one out of every three kills. But sometimes, you get a string of bad luck in the Arcane Tremors.

How to Use Igneous Cores in Diablo 4

Enter the Vault of the Loom and place seven of your Igneous Cores on the altar to use them. This is what allows you to face the Uber version of Season 3’s boss, also known as the Echo of Malphas. Make sure to use some Pearls of Warding before you enter through the main door opened by the cores.

Once you enter, you need to go through four more vault portals that lead to keystones. Collect all four and place them at the center gate to open the way to the final boss. There, you will have a chance to earn a Unique Tuning Stone.

Keep stacking up on cores and head over to the Echo of Malphas again to start farming some Unique items outside of Duriel in Diablo 4.
