How to Get Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI)

Good payment for being Blackthorne's therapist

Gotterdammerung is the second strongest sword in Final Fantasy 16, with a base damage and stagger of 375. But getting it is no simple task. It requires finishing a chain of side quests and gaining some of the rarest materials in the game. Here’s how to get Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16.

How to Get Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16 (FF16)

To get Gotterdammerung, you’re going to need to jump through a lot of hoops. That’s because all the ingredients you’ll need to craft Gotterdammerung are related to side quests and hunts. Here’s the ingredients you’ll need to craft Gotterdammerung:

  • Ragnarök
  • Orichalcum x 3
  • Darksteel x 2
  • Primitive Battlehorn

But to even craft Ragnarök, you’ll need to complete Blacksmith Blues IV, the final quest is a chain of side quests by the same name. Blacksmith Blues IV becomes available once you reach Across the Narrow in the main quest line. Upon completing Blacksmith Blues IV, you’ll get the Gotterdammerung Crafting recipe and the sword Ragnarök. Now, to get the rest of the materials.

How to Get Orichalcum in Final Fantasy 16

Orichalcum is a rare crafting material that’s obtained by defeating Rank-S Marks on the Hunt Board.

The Hunts that drop Orichalcum are:

  • Breaker of Worlds (Atlas)
  • Ruin Reawakened (Svarog)
  • The Tricephalic Terror (Gorgimera)
  • Behemoth King
  • Quest reward for completing Under New Management II

Once Blacksmith Blues IV unlocks, you’ll have access to Breaker of Worlds, Ruin Reawakened, and The Tricephalic Terror, making these your best options.

How to Get Darksteel in Final Fantasy 16

Darksteel is another material that can only be gained by defeating Notorious Marks. But the Notorious Marks that drop it won’t be available until you reach Brotherhood in the main quest. Once you’ve reached that point, the Notorious Marks that drop Darksteel are:

  • Usher to the Underworld (Thanatos)
  • The Grim Reaper (Prince of Death)

How to Get Primitive Horn in Final Fantasy 16

The final ingredient you’ll need is Primitive Battlehorn. And, you guessed it, it can only come from a Notorious Mark. And just like the Marks associated with Darksteel, this Hunt only becomes available once you reach Brotherhood in the main quest. That Notorious Mark is:

  • Gobermouch

Once you’ve managed to defeat each of these marks and gathered all the ingredients, rush back to Blackthorne and he’ll craft you Gotterdammerung. Well worth the effort for such a powerful blade.

Many of the monsters that drop Orichalcum are exceedingly difficult. The one I struggled most with was a dragon, who spends a significant amount of time in the air.
