Finally, a buffed farming method.

Several rare materials drop from several monsters or missions, while some drop in Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant. Most rare materials that drop from Encrypted Vaults tend to have amazing uses, such as Ultimate Descendant unlocks or rare enhancement materials. Cooling Metallic Foils is one of them, and it unlocks one of the most powerful Ultimate Descendants, Ultimate Gley. Here’s how to get Cooling Metallic Foils in The First Descendant.

Where to Get Cooling Metallic Foils in The First Descendant

Cooling Metallic Foils drop from mission monsters in the White-night Gulch region on normal and hard mode. They have an absurdly low drop rate if you choose to farm them through mission monsters. However, they also drop from Encrypted Vaults in the White-night Gulch on any difficulty as well.

Go to The Mountaintops battlefield and look for those holographic icons on the ground. This means there are Encrypted Vaults that could spawn nearby. You can check out our Encrypted Vaults guide to learn the best way to locate them.

In the image above, the area with the red circle has the most condensed spawn locations for these Encrypted Vaults. You can already find two holographic icons in the small red circle alone.

If you go a little further down (almost like a 5-second walk), you’ll see 2 or 3 more. Spam your Ecive Scan and look for the Encrypted Vault. Open them using your stashed-up Codes and get all the Cooling Metallic Foils you need in this area.

Best Way to Farm Cooling Metallic Foils

The best way to farm these Cooling Metallic Foils is through the Encrypted Vaults in the area mentioned above. However, you can also reset the instance by changing the difficulty on your world map screen. You need to have hard mode unlocked to do this method.

After you use the Ecive Scan to open an Encrypted Vault, you can continue to look for more since there are about 4-5 holographic icons nearby. It is worth noting that these holographic icons don’t necessarily mean that the Encrypted Vault has already spawned. It just means they will spawn around this area if they are up.

Keep using your Ecive Scan until you see a vibrating sound icon on your Descendant’s waist. This means that there is an Encrypted Vault nearby. Once you have opened all the Encrypted Vaults near the area, switch difficulties on the world map, use the same waypoint, and run it back.

What Are Cooling Metallic Foils Used For?

Cooling Metallic Foils are used for the following recipes or research:

ProductCooling Metallic Foils Needed
Afterglow Sword Nano Tube Blueprint9
Wave of Light Nano Tube Blueprint9
Gley Enhanced Cells38
Ultimate Gley Stabilizer85

Ultimate Gley Stabilizer needs a whopping 85 pieces of Cooling Metallic Foils. I suggest avoiding crafting the Ultimate Weapon blueprints unless you really need them. These Cooling Metallic Foils are hard to find, and you need some Code Analyzers and Breakers to open those Encrypted Vaults. These Codes are also valuable since they are used to farm other rare materials in different regions.
