It's not your PC, don't worry!

Helldivers 2 continues to expand with new factions, weapons, and warbonds for players to discover. The PC version, however, hasn’t exactly improved in a majorly meaningful way. It still doesn’t have support for any upscaling technologies like DLSS or FSR 3, and performance is all over the place. Additionally, keyboard and mouse Helldivers 2 players have to deal with a camera stutter that appears when moving the mouse around. But take heart, here is how you can fix the camera stutter issue on PC.

Fixing the Helldivers 2 Mouse Camera Stutter

No matter what frame rate you’re getting, if you move the camera around using a mouse in Helldivers 2, there is a visible stutter which can be very distracting during gameplay and combat. Even if you lock the frame rate, there is no getting around it, and the issue completely disappears if you play with a controller. Currently, the only workaround for this is to enable “Mouse Smoothing”, which isn’t ideal but it’s much better than the default stutter.

Here is how you can do this in the PC version:

  • Head over to the options from the pause menu, and select the “Mouse & Keyboard” submenu
  • Here, at the bottom enable the “Mouse Smoothing” setting. You can still keep the value of “Mouse Acceleration” to 0.

Here is a demonstration of the fix in action:

It isn’t super obvious because the video is capped at 60 FPS, but it’s very noticeable in gameplay. This isn’t ideal, of course, because mouse smoothing has its issues, but it’s much more tolerable than the constant camera stutter exhibited with the setting disabled.

I have tried multiple configurations internally and externally and this is the only way to fix the stutter issue at the moment. We hope this is a priority for Arrowhead Studios because it’s a shame that even higher frame rates feel so jittery when playing with a mouse.

While the new update doesn’t address this PC issue, it does introduce a lot of stuff to blow up including Harvesters and Warships. The new update also introduces the first set of melee weapons including the Stun Baton and Stun Lance that are particularly effective against the Illuminate.
