How to Farm Thermal Metallic Foil in The First Descendant

One step closer to Ultimate Gley!

Thermal Metallic Foils only drop from a single region in The First Descendant. The material is scarce, but it is definitely easier to farm compared to other rare materials if you know where to find them and you have the resources. Here’s how to farm Thermal Metallic Foils in The First Descendant efficiently.

Where to Get Thermal Metallic Foil in The First Descendant

Thermal Metallic Foil drops from Encrypted Vaults in the Echo Swamp region on normal or hard difficulty. Each Encrypted Vault will need a specific Code to open, which means you have to farm these Codes before you get to farm Thermal Metallic Foils.

On the bright side, Codes drop from defeating monsters from any missions or operations (Infiltration or Special). So, you can farm other materials that drop from mission rewards or even Amorphous Material Patterns from Infiltration Operations until you get enough Codes to open Encrypted Vaults.

Once you have the Codes, you can go to any battlefield in the Echo Swamp region and look for those holographic icons on the ground. These icons mean that there is an Encrypted Vault that can spawn around the area, and you should use your Ecive Scan to look for it. If you don’t hear a pinging sound and there’s a holographic icon near you, it just means that the Encrypted Vault hasn’t spawned in the location yet.

Best Way to Farm Thermal Metallic Foil

If you look at the image above, you’ll see a huge red circle in the middle of the Muskeg Swamp battlefield in Echo Swamp. Around this area, there are two holographic icons, and Encrypted Vaults frequent the area. Search for it using your Ecive Scan. Once you have opened one, you can switch difficulties and look for another one in a different instance. Keep doing this over and over until you get enough Thermal Metallic Foils.

What Are Thermal Metallic Foils Used For?

Thermal Metallic Foils are used for the following research:

ProductThermal Metallic Foils Needed
The Final Masterpiece Polymer Syncytium Blueprint6
Enduring Legacy Polymer Syncytium Blueprint6
Jayber Spiral Catalyst26
Ultimate Gley Enhanced Cells58

Gley is one of the strongest Descendants, especially when it comes to bossing. You’ll need at least 58 Thermal Metallic Foils to craft one of her materials, so it’ll take five to eight Encrypted Vaults to get enough resources to craft her Enhanced Cells.
