If you started with Temenos, it’s likely that you’ve quickly stumbled across the side story, Pilgrim Protection, which at first blush seems easy. But this side story has stumped many players. Here’s how to find all the Sacred Flame Candles and complete Pilgrim Protection in Octopath Traveler 2.
How to Complete Pilgrim Protection 2 in Octopath Traveler 2
Pilgrim Protection was one of the first quests I ever received, as it’s handed to you by the Elder just outside of the Sacred Flame Church. He wants you to find three Sacred Flame Candles in order to light the way to the Sacred Flame Cathedral in the north.
Fortunately, the first two candles are very easy to find.
First, we’ll need someone who can obtain the possessions of others. Throne is a good choice, as everything she gets is free, but Agnea and Partitio are also good shouts.
From the Elder Position in Flamechurch, turn the time to day. Then approach the church right beside him. At the entrance will be a Cleric. Buy or steal the Sacred Flame Candle on her.
For Candle two, enter the church. On the far right will be another Cleric. Steal or purchase their Sacred Candle.
The third and final Candle will require a bit more legwork. Leave Flamechurch by its north exit and make your way to Flamechurch Pilgrims’ Way. From the save point, follow the path to your left and ascend until you reach Flamechurch: Cathedral Entrance.
I have no idea why there isn’t a fast travel point to the Cathedral.
Follow the path up until you see the blue flame. In front of the blue flame will be another Cleric.
Steal or purchase the last Sacred Flame Candle from him, then return to the Elder in Flamechurch. So ends the quest, and for your trouble you’ll get 5,000 Leaves, a Fortifying Nut, and Tough Nut.
