How to Change Tick Speed in Minecraft

Something like a time travel... of some sort.

If you have decided to speed up the time in Minecraft, then you’ll need to change the tick speed in the game. Changing the tick speed is not a complicated process in Minecraft, and I’ll be glad to show you how to do it.

How to Speed Up Time in Minecraft

Follow these instructions to speed up time in Minecraft:

  1. Turn on cheats in your game (this is done in the Settings section).
  2. Open up the chat by pressing the “T” letter on your keyboard.
  3. Type /gamerule randomTickSpeed X, where X is the rate you want to use. 3 is the default value in the Java version of the game.
  4. If successful, you will see a system message: “Gamerule randomTickSpeed is now set to X”.

Congratulations, now your Minecraft time is sped up.

What is Tick Speed in Minecraft?

Tick speed is the amount of “ticks” that will happen on your server within a second. Minecraft is designed to have three of these ticks each second, and instructing the server to have (significantly) more accelerates the speed at which things on your server are progressing, so all of the processes that take time in the game (growing plants, water flow, fires) will happen much faster.

Should you Change the Tick Speed in Minecraft?

You can certainly have fun with this command and try speeding up your Minecraft server. However, be very careful with what you’re doing because setting the value too high may overload your computer and cause the game to stutter as you would be forcing it to perform too many calculations compared to what is deemed as optimal.

Use it reasonably to save yourself some time for plant growth, and then set it back to normal.
