Palworld players can unlock the Coal Mine by reaching level 53 and spending five Ancient Technology Points in the Technology menu. Ancient Technology Points can be earned by defeating major and minor boss Pals.

The Sakurajima update had increased the level cap in the game from 50 to 55, so players that were at max before will need to get to level 53 before they can have their own space to mine coal within their main base. Once unlocked, players can find the Coal Mine under the Production tab of the Build menu.

Players will need 100 Coal, 70 Stone, and 30 Paldium Fragments to build the Coal Mine at their base. That much Coal needed for the Coal Mine seems like a lot just to save players the time of having to build another base specifically to mine Coal. Especially when players already in the endgame have created these automated Coal farms since the resource is required to make high-level ingredients, armor, and weapons.

However, having more Coal is always welcomed from any source and having a personal spot that your Pals can carry to your stash can be better than having to fast travel to your other base just to make a Coal pickup. Since Coal is in high demand, it is best to assign a Digtoise or Dumud to the Coal Mine for faster mining. The Digtoise would be more preferable as the Dumid also has skills in Watering and Transportation, and may become distracted from mining to focus on those tasks instead.
