How to Beat The Hateful in God of War Ragnarok

If you’ve found any of the Draugr Pits in God of War Ragnarok, then that means you’ve gone toe to toe with The Hateful. This is a nasty miniboss that appears at every Draugr Pit in the game. You encounter it for the first time in Svartalfheim at The WatchTower, and it can be an actual gut check for players.

While there isn’t one way to defeat The Hateful, we’ve curated a list of tips and tricks to help mitigate as much of the pain as possible. Remember, you’re going to fight this thing a few times throughout the game, so it’s best to keep this list handy.

Ressurection Stones

Before entering a fight with The Hateful, make sure you’ve purchased a Ressurection Stone from Brok and Sindri. It’s your second chance card that can be the difference maker. Sure, you could beat The Hateful without having to use it, but why not have a safety net?

Learn to Parry

If you haven’t got the parry timing down, this fight is the time to learn. While you obviously can’t parry The Hateful’s red circle attacks, all of its other attacks are fair game. Parrying The Hateful is the easiest way to open up time to absolutely wail on this annoying little skeleton man. Take some time perfecting the parry and learn its moves.

Use Atreus

Seriously, spam those arrows at both The Hateful and any of the additional enemies that show up. Atreus can buy you all sorts of time and interrupt minor attack animations on the enemy. Don’t forget to mash that square button every time it is off cooldown.

Save Spartan Rage For When You Need Health

Don’t go into the fight guns blazing with Spartan Rage. While you will do more damage to The Hateful in this state, it’s a waste. The best perk you get from Spartan Rage is health back on the damage dealt. Save it for when you need health and use it to refill your health bar; if you pop it while at full health, you’re not using it efficiently.

Combining all of these tips and tricks will help you beat The Hateful. God of War Ragnarok is full of hidden collectibles, upgrades to craft, and much more. Check out all of the hidden collectibles in the Modvitnir Rig.
