When the action starts pumping, and you need to showcase your superior swordsman skills against a group of Fiends that Hojo has called onto the Beach, you’ll have a choice to make — should you help Aerith and Barret, or should you help Tifa and Red XIII. Well, the answer is completely your choice for a variety of reasons.

The first thing that you’ll want to consider is the relationship you are chasing. Are you going after your childhood friend Tifa, or do you plan on romancing the innocent Aerith? This should be your first consideration, as your relationship with the particular character you choose to help will deepen.

Secondly, if you’re not fretting about romance during this playthrough and want to spend more time chasing missable items during a second playthrough, you can pick either side. The result will be the same either way, with a different cutscene playing after the battle starts.
