If you find yourself needing a break from all the usual Endwalker shenanigans, Final Fantasy XIV’s new Island Sanctuary feature introduced in patch 6.2 may do the trick. Players are given a private getaway where they can gather resources, craft tools, construct workshops, cultivate crops, and more in the hopes of building their own trading empire. Through hard work, dedication, and time-gating, you can earn yourself mounts, minions, and other rewards by accumulating unique island currencies and exchanging them with NPCs around the isle. Another activity available in Island Sanctuary is capturing the various small, large, common, and rare wildlife found roaming around every corner of the zone. One such rare animal is the Glyptodon, and catching them requires a little know-how on their whereabouts. We’ve got you covered there, so read on to learn how to catch a Glyptodon in FFXIV’s Island Sanctuary, including time and location.

Capturing Animals in FFXIV Island Sanctuary
Animals around your island come in all shapes and sizes and each require specific tools to successfully capture. The Glyptodon is considered a Medium sized animal and, therefore, can only be captured using a Makeshift Restraint –a crafted tool learned after reaching Rank 6 in your Sanctuary. To craft the restraint, you’ll need the following materials:
- 3 Island Hemp
- 1 Island Copper Ore
Once you’ve crafted your Makeshift Restraint, you can switch to Capture mode and select it as your tool. Now it’s time to hunt.
Capturing the Glyptodon – Time and Location
Because the Glyptodon is a rare spawn, you’ll only be able to spot it in the wild during the hours of 12 AM to 3 AM Eorzean Time. Mount up and travel to the far north-eastern cliffsides that face the ocean around the (X: 31, Y: 11) coordinates during the early morning hours to find the crimson-colored beast. No need to worry about the current weather, as the Glyptodon spawns regardless of rain, hail, sleet, or snow.
Approach the Glyptodon and use the Makeshift Restraint on them to attempt the catch. It may take a few tries but, once you’re successful, your new capture will be transported directly to your Island Sanctuary and can be found roaming around the pasture with your other catches. The Glyptodon will drop Sanctuary Claw leavings once a day, so make sure to keep them happy and well-fed so you can make your daily collections.
