Fae Farm was first announced during the Nintendo Direct in September 2022, and ever since fans of the farming sim genre have been eagerly awaiting more details surrounding gameplay. In a market saturated with games of the same genre, Fae Farm stands out due to its online co-operative play that will allow 1-4 players to play together. So, how does multiplayer work in Fae Farm? Keep reading to find out what information the developers of Fae Farm have shared thus far.

What Can Players Expect from Fae Farm’s Multiplayer

With Fae Farm releasing on September 8, 2023, there’s not long to wait until players get to explore the magical world of Azoria for themselves. So, let’s discuss what we know about the multiplayer aspect of the game so far.

Officially, the Nintendo store page for Fae Farm states the following in regards to the multiplayer aspect of the game:

Unfold the mysteries of the island on your own or with up to three other players. You can invite your family and friends or visit their homestead to progress together, playing beside you or online.

Nintendo, 2023

Fae Farm offers both online multiplayer, and local co-op for 1-4 people. Players can switch between running their charming homestead independently and having multiple friends drop in and interact with their world just like the host can.

Nintendo of America released a pre-order trailer on their YouTube channel which provides a look as to how multiplayer will work. Players can join each other’s worlds, interact with the farm, water, plant, and grow crops, chop down trees, craft, quest together, and interact with the vibrant NPC’s that call this town their home. In an interview with Game Rant, the game’s director, Isaac Epp, stated that during multiplayer, players are able to romance and marry NPCs in the world that they are in.

You can date any or all of them that you want, and that’s true during multiplayer as well. There are some fun things that happen where if two people are interested, then it’s first come, first served.

Isaac Epp, July 19, 2023

This clearly illustrates that the game is designed to allow all players to have deep experiences no matter if it is their world or they are playing multiplayer with someone else. This sets Fae Farm apart from competitors who have multiplayer options that, whilst enjoyable, are often superficial at best. Such as Animal Crossing: New Horizon, in which multiplayer allowed players to interact with each other’s islands on a basic level, but they were unable to change or progress the island in any way.

How to Play with Friends in Fae Farm

When loading the game, players will have the option to continue to play solo, or via multiplayer. Anyone that you want to play with must be on your friends list, as that is how players will be invited to play together.

Both solo and multiplayer play is seamless, as players can drop in and out at will, and the shared progression will remain and continue to be further developed. With the game releasing on both Nintendo Switch and PC, players will be glad to know that Fae Farm supports cross-play, and therefore players can experience this magical world together, regardless of their preferred platform of choice.

Fae Farm releases on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on September 8, 2023. With the multiplayer aspect providing a true collaborative experience, players will be sure to experience a farming experience that sets itself apart from its competitors.
