How To Fix the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered Audio Issue

"Hate me Raziel, but do it honestly!"

Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered finally brings the Soul Reaver titles to modern platforms with updated visuals, improved controls, and quality-of-life additions. This is now the ultimate way to enjoy the franchise, neatly packaged in a convenient collection available for all major platforms. The PC version runs really well on practically anything, but it doesn’t have any settings to tweak, and there are minor technical issues players can run into. If you launched Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered and there is no audio output, here is how you can fix that.

Fixing the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered Audio Issue

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered requires certain codecs to play the in-game audio. These are usually installed automatically if you have a modern third-party media player like VLC or PotPlayer, but you can manually download the handy K-lite Codec Pack to install the necessary codecs required to play audio.

To do this, follow the steps below:

  • Head over to the official K-lite website, and select the “Standard” version.
  • This is only 36 MB in size and comes with MPC-HC which is still one of the best media playback tools around that is super light at the same time.

Once you have installed the K-lite Codec Pack, you should be good to go, and audio playback will be active in Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered. If you’re still not getting any sound, we have a few more suggestions.

Check the Output Audio Device

If you have connected a device that has an audio output, Windows may have defaulted to it. This includes PlayStation controllers like the DualShock 4 or the DualSense which have speakers in them. If you have connected either of these, make sure to double-check if these aren’t being used as the default audio device. This usually appears as the “Headset Earphone” in the list of audio devices.

Ideally, these codecs should be installed with the game or through a Windows update but that isn’t always the case with every PC user. This was an issue with their previous Tomb Raider Remastered collection as well, and whatever form of audio format they’re using in these remasters, the K-lite Codec Pack has it.

With the audio now active, if you want to change the resolution of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Remastered, here is how you can do that externally.
