Best Mods for Red Dead Redemption on PC

Our current selection includes a balance of mods that improve the experience, whether through a quality-of-life feature or by adding more customization.

PlayStation Button Prompts

This mod adds PlayStation button prompts, both the DualShock 4 and the DualSense to the PC release, which sadly only has Xbox button prompts. Make sure to fix the controller issues in Red Dead Redemption using a small tweak as well.

ClipTweaks

This mod does a lot of things and allows players to adjust the following in-game parameters.

  • Unlock FPS from the original 144fps limit
  • Remove the depth of field effect
  • Remove the bloom effect
  • Remove the heatwave effect
  • Adds an FOV multiplier

You can use any of these features and toggle off whatever you want.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Camera

This mod brings the game’s camera closer to the way it is in Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s a bit zoomed in than usual, and while the effect is subtle, it’s pretty evident what it’s trying to mimic if you’ve played both games.

Zombie John

The perfect mod to complement Halloween, this mod replaces the character model of John with his Zombie variant from Unread Nightmare. It has two options, and both look fantastic.

Black Gentleman Suit

John has a pretty nice selection of outfits that he can unlock in Red Dead Redemption, including a stylish white suit. If you’re not a fan of that color though, this mod replaces the white with black, and it looks really nice.

Skip the Intro Videos

Tired of sitting through the unskippable intro videos and logo splashes? Well, the current FusionFix for Red Dead Redemption takes care of that and takes you straight to the menu after boot.

Remove Pillarboxing from Ultrawide Cutscenes

While Read Dead Redemption has support for ultrawide monitors during gameplay, it adds pillar boxing during cutscenes, which can be pretty distracting. Thankfully, a patch by Rose addresses just that and is very simple to set up.

Quick Loot

Look, we know Rockstar put a lot of effort into the looting and animal skinning animations, but if you’re tired of seeing those play out for the millionth time, this mod practically removes them. It’s still a bit janky, but it gets the job done.

We’ll be adding more noteworthy mods to this list, but for now, these offer a decent variety, customization, and utility. We haven’t focused too much on visual uplifts just yet, because those tend to come down to taste, and often change the presentation a bit much.
