Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Find the Night Orchid in BG3

Get the right flowers for Shadowheart.

Anyone who is going after Shadowheart’s affection needs to get the right items, and what better way to earn her attention than by finding a Night Orchid in Baldur’s Gate 3? Not everyone will care about Shadowheart’s romance, but to finish her questline in general, you certainly need the flower on hand.

Where to Find a Night Orchid in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can get a Night Orchid north of the Shadowed Battlefield fast travel point within the Shadowlands. The coordinates for the flower are around (X:40 and Y:36) just below one of the twisting branch bridges that lead north into the Shadowlands of Baldur’s Gate 3. There is only one Night Orchid in this area, but it’s a renewable resource so it should grow back after a few long rests. Although, you really only need one to help out Shadowheart.

There are at least two different Night Orchids that you can find in the cursed Shadowlands that I can confirm, and there are likely a couple of others scattered around. However, this is the easiest orchid to find by far. The Shadowed Battlefield fast travel portal is the first one you find in the area, and you can utilize the portal as a landmark for the orchid.

Whenever you decide you need the flower, just fast-travel and head to the broken platform just slightly northwest. The platform where the flower rests is between one of the broken floating pieces of cursed ground. When you reach the coordinates, make sure to highlight the area with the “alt” key (hold down the “X” button on PS5 or “A” button on Xbox) so that the Night Orchid easily stands out.

If you’re already in BG3’s Act 3, there are a couple places you can find Night Orchids around the Lower City as well. There’s one Night Orchid in a metal trunk in Cazador’s Dungeon (X:-1955, Y:-857) beneath Szarr Palace, but you can also find several in the House of Grief. In the Cloister of Sombre Embrace beneath the House of Grief, you can find a hidden cave behind a wooden barricade within the Armoury. This is the Night Orchid Cave, and you’ll find many Night Orchids around the lake along with some extra context on Shadowheart’s past.

How to Use Night Orchids in BG3

But the Night Orchid can also be used as an alchemical ingredient to brew an elixir. When you combine three Night Orchids, you’ll get a Solution of Night Orchid. This solution in turn can be combined with any Vitriol (Bonecap, Weavemoss, Lolth’s Candle, Shadowroot Sac, etc.) to make the Superior Elixir of Arcane Cultivation, which will allow you to gain an additional Level 3 spell slot.

Arguably the best use of the Night Orchid is to use it to get closer with Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3. With the orchid in hand, you can head back to camp or speak to Shadowheart directly. You can continue her quest or ramp up the romance in your BG3 playthrough.

If you’re just getting started with Shadowheart’s questline, there’s a lot more you’ll need to do before gifting her a Night Orchid. So here’s a full guide on how to romance Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.
