We first got a glimpse at the next generation of gaming during The Game Awards back in 2019 and since then, Microsoft has been very transparent about specs and what their goals are for the Series X. Given that E3 is no longer happening due to the continued spread of COVID-19, and it looks like all future events leading up into the Fall will have the same fate, it makes sense then that these big reveals would be done in a digital format. What better way to fill that E3 void than with incredible back-to-back reveal showcases.
Sony is also rumored to have a games reveal next month as well for the PlayStation 5, though no details have been confirmed at this time. At least we do know one thing about the PS5 is that it likely won't look like a fridge.
