Senator Yee Thinks Gamers Should “Quiet Down” In Violent Video Game Debate

He thinks gamers have "no credibility."

The violent video game debate literally rages on following the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, with gamers insisting that it’s doing no harm and a few Senators and other politicians insisting otherwise.  Now another Senator is lashing out, this time at the credibility of the video game community itself. Oh boy.

California Senator Leland Yee, who previously wrote a games legislation to ban sales of ultra-violent games (struck down by the Supreme Court, thankfully), has spoken to the San Francisco Chronicle about the matter, stating, “Gamers have got to just quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument.”

He continued, “This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money.  This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

It’s funny how Senator Yee tries to speak for a whole community and doesn’t see them as relevant and important. Thankfully, there is this thing called the First Amendment.
