While news of a Minecraft movie has been around for quite some time now, we didn’t have any details on when it would be releasing – or what sort of direction they would be taking it in. Now the official website for the game has revealed the film’s first details, including a release date.
The new Minecraft movie will be dropping on March 4, 2022. Seems a bit far off for a reveal, but the team took it with stride adding “Does it sound distant? We beg to differ! It’s only 1053 days. Or about 34 months, or 150 weeks, or a million and a half minutes. Not that we’re counting, of course. Besides, it turns out that making a live-action, full-length feature film is really complicated!”
So what does the Minecraft movie have to offer fans? According to the official announcement, the upcoming adaptation will follow a teenage girl as she’s joined by a rag-tap group of adventurers. Following an attack from the viscious Ender Dragon, it’s up to her and her friends to save their stunningly blocky world from total destruction.
The film will be helmed by Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist’s Peter Sollett underneath the Warner Bros. umbrella. The team also mentioned that while the movie will be understandably different from the game itself, it was entirely inspired by fan creations around the world and aims to keep true to what Minecraft means to players.
Minecraft is poised for a March 4, 2022 release in theaters everywhere.
