A lot just happened today

With the latest Behind The Sims Summit concluding today, January 31, 2023, there’s a lot to unpack here. Initially starting with more information on Project Rene, the newest entry in the Sims franchise and believed to be The Sims 5, we naturally progressed to information regarding The Sims 4’s infants update and a teaser for a second addition releasing soon. While there were only teasers for these previously, today’s Summit answers many questions we had regarding the Sims’ future.

The first major announcement in the Behind The Sims Summit highlighted some information about Project Rene, the newest addition to The Sims and what many believe will eventually be The Sims 5. While it was revealed that it’s still in the early days of development and won’t release for at least a couple of years, a few notable features were mentioned.

One point is that Project Rene will feature multiplayer and that public playtests will become available early on as the development cycle progresses. We’ll also be able to play the game on both PC and mobile with a wider range of customization tools than in The Sims 4.

The second major announcement during the Summit mentions the Infants Update coming to The Sims 4. The highlight in this portion was the official release date set to March 14, alongside some snippets of what the update will add. Infants are the halfway point between newborn babies and toddlers, with some differences being their movement, interactions with humans and animals and how we customize them. They’ll have their own Create-a-Sim menu, much like toddlers and other life stages, with features like different teeth and birthmarks being a new addition.

Alongside these two updates, the Summit also gave details about new music being added to The Sims Freeplay and a very brief teaser for the latest expansion, with more information releasing on February 2.

The Sims games are available on various platforms, including PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, through the official website. If you’d like to learn more about the games, check out How to Play Sims 4 Multiplayer and How to Scoot Over in Bed in The Sims 4.
