Wizards of the Coast has given us many incredible tabletop and RPG experiences through the years and as a huge BioWare fan myself, their recent announcement of a new story-driven RPG studio led by BioWare vets is cause enough for celebration.

For those unfamiliar with the company, this is the publisher that is behind Dungeons & Dragons and the ever-popular Magic: The Gathering, but now they are stepping out even further with a new game studio that’s sole focus is to deliver great RPG, story-driven experiences.

The new studio is called Archetype Entertainment and few details are known at this time outside of Chad Robertson (as head of the studio)  and James Ohlen (as general manager) both attached to the new endeavor.

Both developers crafted breathtaking tales within their time at BioWare previously with Ohlen’s credits including Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age Origins, and a few different Star Wars experiences. Robertson, on the other hand, was previously attached to Anthem and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

So what’s the first game up for the new studio? We don’t actually know but we do know it won’t be Dungeons & Dragons or Magic: The Gathering. Instead, the website boasts ” a world-class team to build a multi-platform roleplaying game set in a new science fiction universe.”

As a huge tabletop fan and RPG gamer myself, I’m excited to see what surprises they have in store and to learn more about what other names are attached to their secret new project! To learn more about the studio, even how to become a part of the team yourself, you can check out the Archetype Entertainment website right here.
