Larian Studios has announced that cross-play will be coming to its RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. Meaning that you could play with any of your friends no matter what platform they’re on.
The news comes from a Eurogamer interview on September 6, 2023, where the director of publishing, Macjeal Douse, said that having cross-play “was always in the planning,” but currently, there’s no release date on when it’ll go live. The timing of this announcement lines up perfectly with Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PlayStation 5. It’s also worth mentioning it’ll also be coming to the Xbox Series X|S later this year.
Douse went on to share his thoughts about Baldur’s Gate 3 being cross-play by saying:
“We knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready for, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure.”
The PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 features online multiplayer, split-screen local co-op, and cross-save for those looking to jump between platforms. If you decide to play with local co-op, just know the game does force you to play at 30fps.
