Swen Vincke, CEO and Founder of Larian Studios has just confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be headed to Xbox Series X|S consoles before the end of the year ahead of its originally planned 2024 release date.
In a Twitter (Also known as X) post, Vincke states that after meeting with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, a solution was found to bring the critically acclaimed RPG to Xbox players this year.
“Super happy to confirm that after meeting @XboxP3 yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.” writes Vincke.
Vincke followed up that post with additional information on select features available for both Series X and Series S consoles.
Series X versions will include split-screen co-op, a feature both the PC and PlayStation 5 versions support. While the Series S won’t support it, cross-save progression will still be available for the console.
The news was received with overwhelming support from the Xbox community, which no doubt has felt some FOMO after the explosion reception Baldur’s Gate 3 has received in the past month. It seems even the official Xbox Twitter account is just as excited about the news.
Since its release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has claimed the top spot as the highest-rated game of 2023, beating The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and is currently the most pre-ordered game on the PlayStation store. It’s currently available for PC and is coming to PlayStation 5 on September 6. We can expect a more precise release date for the Xbox Series X|S version in the near future.
