Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 releases February 23 and it comes with a number of improvements over the original, including enhanced solo and split-screen co-op options, a variety of new characters to choose from (along with older favorites) and plenty of other features to bring the multiplayer to a whole new level.
The following Garden Warfare 2 multiplayer tips cover choosing a class and stocking up on stickers.
Choosing a Class
No matter which side you choose – plants or zombies – you’ll find a variety of classes.
Those who prefer melee-style combat have some great choices available. For the Plants you have the Chomper, which can gnaw enemies with its teeth while using a special ability where it can dig underground and swallow someone in one massive gulp. On the Zombies side, Super Brainz is an ideal choice, as his “fists of justice” can plow through most opponents, while he can also unleash a spinning attack and sliding drop kick that can deal a significant amount of damage.
Other characters include sniper class characters (like the Cactus and Captain Deadbeard), support (such as the Sunflower and the Scientist) and straight-up assault (the Imp, Foot Soldier, Peashooter and Kernel Corn). There are a number of differences depending on your style of play, whether you prefer a faster-firing weapons or something with more power.
The best way to find characters that suit you is to try each one to see what they have to offer. It’s as easy as selecting someone new before you re-spawn, or switching while in your home hub by visiting the Character Select pod. You can also play around with them outside of a multiplayer mode, simply by heading into the garden in the center of the map and getting into a quick skirmish. There are plenty of enemies around that allow you to do this.
Calling Support
No man is an island – and for that matter, neither is a Plant or Zombie. What we mean is you’ll want to call upon support to help you out whenever you can, and there are a number of ways to do this.
First you’ll see little pots scattered across objective points or in front of your home base. Provided you have the adequate amount of stickers, you can call upon secondary characters to help you out, from tiny Peashooters and robots to support characters that drop occasional health, such as Sunflowers. You’ll want to make sure you summon as many of these as possible, especially when defending a specific point on the map.
Additionally there are allies that come into play in one of two ways. The first is with larger pots, where you can call in fellow Plants or Zombies to increase your line of defense. In addition, crates may drop out of the sky and you’ll need to break them open to free your automatically chosen comrade. You’ll have to be quick, though – if you take too long opening the crate, it’ll disappear. Go ahead and get moving once it hits the ground. You may leave a defended flag long enough to open it, but make sure you hustle back.
Stickers
Finally, make sure you stock up on stickers.
Sticker packs vary in price. The cheaper ones offer you a variety of smaller aids that can help you along. However, as you save up for the more expensive ones, you begin to unlock more powerful secondary aids, like the reinforcements. In addition, you can also get new character skins this way, some of which come with additional performance boosts. For example, one particular skin for Kernel Corn lets shoot flaming bullets at enemies. Hitting them already damages them enough, but they’ll also take damage from the fire.
It never hurts to save up and buy more expensive packs, but make sure you’re stocked up enough on secondary cards before going after them.
