Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 Zombie Class Guide

From cannon-happy pirates to mighty superheroes, the undead have something for everyone.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 drops on February 23, and it brings back all the manic multiplayer action we loved in the original game, along with new local split-screen co-op option and the ability to play through single player missions.

Today we break down the zombies you’ll get to control and what they bring to the table. We’ll explain their differences and provide tips to give you an edge in multiplayer.

Foot Soldier

This is a general assault class ideal for players used to run-and-gun action. His primary weapon is the Z-1 Assault Blaster, which has plenty of firepower and can also be upgraded with faster reload, larger ammo clip and stronger ammunition.

Secondary Abilities

Zombie Stink Cloud: Creates a purple cloud that makes it tough to see enemies and allies.

Rocket Jump: Propels him through the air. Great for reaching higher areas and buildings

ZPG: A rocket launcher with one piece of ammo to fire with potentially devastating results.

Engineer

While this may sound like a non-assault type character, the Engineer plays a significant role for the zombie squad, as you use his concrete launcher to plug enemies with painful shots. You can also upgrade his reloading speed, increased ammo capacity (from 12 to 15) and more explosive shots.

Secondary Abilities

Sonic Grenade: Blows up when someone gets within its audible range; good for setting traps.

Zombot Drone: Provides additional firepower when called upon.

The Jackhammer: Allows the Engineer to become temporarily invincible and plow through the opposition.

Scientist

This character not only looks zany, but also has plenty of support to give his fellow zombies. He uses a Goo Blaster to get the point across, and while not as powerful as other guns carried by fellow zombies, it can still do sufficient damage, especially once it’s upgraded with higher ammo count and quicker reloading.

Secondary Abilities

Sticky Explody Ball: Stick to something and watch it go boom!

Warp: Allows for a quick transportation from one section of the map to the other.

Zombie Heal Station: Creates a temporary healing center where the Scientist and his teammates replenish health.

All-Star

This football star is one of the biggest powerhouses in Garden Warfare 2, and what he lacks in speed, he more than makes up for with his Football Cannon. Like the other characters, you can upgrade, shooting out more damaging compressed balls, turning down the overheat (reload) and cooling individual shots.

Secondary Abilities

Sprint Tackle: Use this to distract enemies and protect teammates.

Imp Punt: A tackle maneuver that sends enemies flying.

Dummy Shield: Activates a temporary shield that can protect the All-Star when  under fire.

Imp

Probably the weakest of the characters in terms of strength and likeliest to die in battle, the Imp is a powerhouse, thanks to his fast-firing twin pistols. He doesn’t have upgrades, but he can call in a Z-Mech on occasion, a tough mech suit that provides added strength.

Secondary Abilities

Gravity Grenade: This ability can temporarily trap enemies in limbo for several seconds, leaving them susceptible to attack.

Impkata: Sends the Imp spinning off wildly in a gun-toting range, hitting anyone that gets close to him.

Z-Mech Summoning: You’ll get an indication once this is ready, and you can make the call to send the Z-Mech crashing down!

For Z-Mech use

Robo Laser: A cannon that can take down most enemies with ease, though you will need to give it time to reload.

Robo Stomp: Step on your enemies!

Missile Madness: Sends a barrage of missiles towards your targets; keep in mind this takes a little while to reload.

Captain Deadbeard

Yarrrrr! Garden Warfare 2’s pirate will definitely take more than your booty if you’re not careful, as he brings a world of hurt with his main and secondary attacks. He’s the sniper class of the group, as his Scurvy Shot can hit most enemies from a distance and doesn’t require much time to reload.

Secondary Abilities

Parrot Pal: This helpful bird provides an additional dose of gunfire when called upon, similar to a drone.

Barrel Blast: The Pirate essentially puts on a barrel and lights it some dynamite, then gets close enough to enemies before exploding!

Cannon Rodeo: Players position themselves in a spot, then hop aboard a cannon with Deadbeard riding it like a horse, firing at everyone in range.

Super Brainz

Finally there’s the superhero class, aka Super Brainz. Wearing a costume that would make Superman proud, this guy is lethal both up-close and from a distance. He can use punches to defeat foes, and then light up his Heroic Beam Ring to shoot enemies from range.

Secondary Abilities

Heroic Kick: Allows Brainz to perform a devastating dropkick.

Super Ultra Ball: A powerful fireball attack that can fry pretty much anyone it comes in contact with (except larger enemies).

Turbo Twister: Brainz transforms into a spinning vortex of hurt with a hurricane punching attack.
