The Last of Us Part II has been through one seriously bumpy development, sustaining delays, leaks, even bigger leaks, and much more. During the most recent episode of State of Play, the spotlight was placed on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II. Director Neil Druckmann has led us through a new preview of the inbound gritty adventure, and things are looking more grim than ever. While the video clocks in around 25 minutes, fans were given eight minutes of brand new, never-before-seen gameplay to sink their eyes into. Check out the action for yourself in the video below:

While some fans were maybe expecting to hear more about the upcoming PlayStation 5, this episode of State of Play was solely to take a deep dive into The Last of Us Part II. The video begins with a trailer that fans have already seen, followed by Druckmann taking the lead and providing us with all of the glorious details. After settling down in Jackson, Wyoming, peace doesn’t last too long. Following a tragic event, players will take on the role of Ellie and head out across the U.S., with a bulk of the game taking place in Seattle.

As for gameplay, since Part II is arriving several years after the first installment, there is going to be a handful of new mechanics in place. Druckmann specifically notes some of the traversal mechanics that players will have at their fingertips. These will certainly help when it comes to dealing with enemies. The ones from the first game are back and worse than ever, new enemies are around, and much more. As can be seen in the video above, there are several ways to deal with the wide variety of baddies in The Last of Us Part II.

At the end of the video, an extended never-before-seen gameplay sequence was shown, and it looks to be everything fans are wanting. We get a good look at what to expect in terms of stealth, environment, weapons and so much more. Needless to say, it’s going to be a bloody spectacular and dark time when The Last of Us Part II arrives next month.

The Last of Us Part II is set to launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on June 19th. What do you think about the latest gameplay reveal? Let us know over on Twitter @PrimaGames, and be sure to check out our Game Hub for more news about the upcoming title!
