Tips for Playing Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

  • Loot all of the enemies. There are a lot of items that require crafting materials, but almost every piece of gear or upgrade requires money. For these reasons, it’s important to loot as many enemies as possible after you knock out or assassinate them. The more loot you gather, the easier it will be for you to purchase new gear or upgrade your existing arsenal.
  • Take to the rooftops. Travel through London can be hampered by the numerous enemies scattered throughout the streets. If you head up to the rooftops of buildings and make your way to the next destination by traversing the rooftops, you’ll avoid detection from the enemies below and have a great view for spotting potential targets.
  • In addition to rooftop travel, you can also use a carriage when your destination is far away. The Frye twins can hijack virtually any carriage they find on the streets, but be careful not to hijack police or enemy gang carriages if you wish to avoid a potential fight. Think of it like Grand Theft Auto, where you can steal a carriage, but the owner may not be overly appreciative. In addition, you can crash into almost anything without much consequence, so don’t worry about safe driving.
  • Stun higher level enemies. There are bound to be instances in which you’re fighting against enemies higher level than you. When this occurs, use the stun (PS4 – X, Xbox One – A) to prevent them from attacking in the middle of your combos. Unlike enemies on or below your level, higher level foes will ignore your combos and attack with fearsome blows when least expected. You won’t have much time to dodge unless you’re buffering counters into your combos (pressing the counter button frequently between attacks just in case a counter attack comes). If you stun higher level enemies every few attacks, you’ll prevent them from attacking you and your combos won’t be interrupted.
  • Know your Frye. While the Frye twins are both assassins and you can complete missions with either (aside from the missions that require you to play as a specific character), there are some differences in how they play. Evie is the more traditional assassin who should be used for stealth missions when you don’t want to bring attention to yourself. Jacob is the brute force assassin who excels at close quarters combat and has more fighting prowess than Evie. If you want to sneak around to complete missions, play as Evie. If you want to fight every enemy, pick Jacob.
  • Unlock different skills. In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate you earn one skill point for each twin every 1,000 experience points. However, you do not level up until you spend a set number of skill points (usually three) to acquire new skills. If you’re sitting on 20 skill points you haven’t leveled up at all, despite earning 20,000 experience points. Don’t spend skill points recklessly, but keep in mind you’ll open up new skill options as you level up, meaning it may be more strategic to pick up a skill you don’t “need” so you can level up and unlock a skill you really want. In addition, while you earn skill points for both twins simultaneously (essentially earning two skill points for every 1,000 experience points), skills for Evie and Jacob are separate. Any skills unlocked for Evie will not be unlocked for Jacob and vice versa. You have to level them up individually.
  • Whistle your day away. While the whistle mechanic has been around for quite some time in the Assassin’s Creed series, it seems more useful than ever in Syndicate. There are numerous occasions when whistling is the best way to get through a certain point in a mission (assuming you go the stealth route). You’re rarely prompted to use the whistle, so make sure you remember you can use it when you need to separate enemies and draw an opponent around a corner, where you can assassinate him away from a crowd of adversaries.
