What We’re Playing: Weekend Edition Version 4.0

It's a Fatal Fourway with this weekend's edition!

It’s Friday, and you know what that means? It’s time for another rousing edition of What We’re Playing: Weekend Edition. While some absolutely massive games have just hit digital storefronts, we’re taking our time not to sully the experience with them… or so I thought until I saw what half of our team is currently playing. Let’s dive right in and find out what we’ve got on the agenda to get us through another weekend of gaming.

I am playing some oddball mods this weekend – namely the gigantic overhaul mod pack S.T.A.L.K.E.R. G.A.M.M.A. and the very much not-developer-endorsed (despite requiring a legal purchase of the game) single player Escape From Tarkov mod. I plan on squeezing in some Baldur’s Gate 3, but I’ve just got the itch for those lonely, hyper-realistic Eastern European wastelands.

I’ll be playing Palia’s closed and open betas! After spending the last few weeks hyping myself for it, I’ve already started playing a little and catching up to my progress during the Alpha. I spent months looking for another chill farming game to play, and this conveniently popped up during my search.
I’m looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and chill vibes. If I’m lucky, a few friends will join me next week!

Shawn Robinson – The Messenger/StarCraft Remastered

I’m hopping into The Messenger for my first playthrough of a Metroidvania and it is shockingly great! Some hilarious writing and that movement is crisp. If you aren’t aware, it was made by the same developers as the upcoming Sea of Stars later this month which I’ll be playing as well. Highly suggest it! I’ll also be hopping into StarCraft Remastered since I love the second game but have never played the first. Haven’t started yet at the time of writing, so I’m super interested to see how it compares. Wish me luck!

It’s time for the Scorching BBQ Event in Dead by Daylight, so I’m going to be doing whatever possible to grind out as many Bloodpoints as possible. Not only that, but I have the chance to unlock some excellent cosmetics for my main man, The Clown. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a horrifying hot dog vendor, and while it’s already horrifying to think about what’s in a real hot dog, I don’t want to know what is in these.

After I’ve spent enough time in the Fog, I’m jumping into the world of Baldur’s Gate 3. Yes, I may or may not have created a Gnome version of Nicolas Cage that I refer to as Gnomicolas, but that’s beyond the point. This seems like the perfect type of game to get myself hooked on, and I know I won’t be able to drag myself away.

Matt Vatankhah – Baldur’s Gate 3

I’m probably the odd man out here, but I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 this weekend. The Divinity series made me a huge fan of Larian Studios, and I’ve managed to avoid playing the early-access version of Baldur’s Gate for years. Now that it’s finally arrived, I’m ready to get lost in its enormous and captivating world for the foreseeable future. No friends, no phone calls, and definitely no showers. It’s party time.

Eric Eduardo Weichart – Pikmin 4

I’m ending my obsession with Pikmin 3 Deluxe, where I finally finished the 100% no-deaths run on Ultra Spicy (did it in 15 days). I find the extra content boring, so I guess I will be moving to Pikmin 4.

Priscilla Wells – Final Fantasy XVI/Runescape

This weekend I am working on the platinum for Final Fantasy XVI. I am in that post-game rut where it is hard to choose a new game to play, so I decided to continue on in FF16. I will be focusing on finishing up the Hunt Board, and a few other trophies before tackling the second playthrough.

Otherwise, I will be playing RuneScape as the Double XP Live event is currently running. I’m not going all out, but I am hoping to get some AFK Div training in. I will be checking over the requirements for the Necromancy release, and making sure that I am ready for that too!

Oh, and if my new charger for my Steam Deck arrives by this weekend, I will be checking out how Baldur’s Gate 3 runs on it; which I am incredibly excited about!

Patrick Souza – Cult of the Lamb

I never actually had a chance to play Cult of the Lamb, but this is no longer the case! I’m giving it a shot this weekend while still being, like, 90% blind on that game. Do people really eat feces as a healthy dish here? Kids and their cults these days.

Well, I never thought I’d say this, but I’m looking forward to having a massive fanatical religious following for the next few days.

Meg Bethany Koepp – Baldur’s Gate 3/Honkai Star Rail

Not that I’m a fortune teller but I bet I can tell you what most of us on this list are playing this weekend, and I’m joining them. Baldur’s Gate 3 has me hooked – it is SO good. I went with the Sorcerer class and I’ve been having the time of my life.

If I get time (AKA if I can stop playing BG3), I’ll dive into Honkai: Star Rail as I’ve got a couple of missions I need to finish up. I also want to catch up in Genshin Impact so I’m ready for the 4.0 update buuuut… We’ll see.

No matter if we’re jumping into an old favorite or something new, it’s always great to see what the writers here at Prima Games are getting into. I will say, if you come across a Mr. Puddles this weekend in Dead by Daylight, there’s a chance it could be me. Give me a few quick crouches in a row, and I’ll help you farm for some extra Bloodpoints. For everyone else, it’s on sight.
