Fortnite is home to some incredible mashups. We’ve seen Deadpool invade the party, we’ve shown off our lightsaber love with the Star Wars crossover, we fought Thanos as the Avengers, we hung out with a Marshmello concert – the mashups have been insane! Epic Games has already stated they have no plans on slowing that crossover train down anytime soon and it looks like Spawn could be the next surprise invasion! At least according to creator Todd McFarlane.
For those that may not know, Todd McFarland’s company makes the official Fortnite toys, which means the communication between the two teams has already been set up. He mentioned in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that the conversation of a potential Spawn inclusion was already there and that he shared the many variations of the character from the comic books themselves and the extending toy lines through the years. “Literally dozens and dozens of looks,” he told the site when talking about the unlimited skins potential this character could bring to the world of battle royale.
“You got all these sorts of iterations of it,” he added.” So, yeah, I had the conversations with them. Might’ve been a little bit of bad timing because although they weren’t able to say at that point, soon thereafter the Marvel characters came out and then the DC characters, so I go, ‘OK.’ You got to know where your place is in any kind of room. So, the big boys had gotten in the room ahead of me. So, maybe once all that enthusiasm goes down, they’re looking for some other stuff, I think Spawn may be something that makes sense, depending on what’s happening with Spawn out in the marketplace and other places will help drive it one way or the other maybe.”
As both a huge Spawn fan and a huge fan of McFarland himself, I would love to see this be made into a reality. I don’t play much of Fortnite now that Warzone is out, but I would dive back into the world of Victory Royale for some Spawn action, especially if they added Gunslinger Spawn because he’s both classy and lethal and I will always have a special place in my heart for that iteration.
