During the Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, the next installment in the Monster Hunter franchise was finally revealed: Monster Hunter Rise. There is so much to unpack here, but let’s start with the new companions.
Monster Hunter fans will be accustomed to their trusty Palico cat companion, but now there are Dogs! Not only does this good boy help assist you in fights, but you can ride them! Using the new Wire Bug tool allows you to chain together the use of your grappling hook to zip around.
It also allows players to chain together attacks. This is just one small addition that can be seen in the trailer. The Monster Hunter series has never offered players this much mobility.
Monster Hunter Rise releases on March 26, 2021. Monster Hunter series Producer Ryozo Tsjimoto says that the title comes from the verticality of running up cliffs and walls.

The trailer, which can be seen below shows off some great combat and new monsters as well. The biggest of them being Magnamalo, which the trailer implies, will be the main antagonist monster. Magnamalo is a giant red Wyvern with purple flames. Not much more information was given, but it doesn’t look like it will be easy to take down.
Three other Monsters were revealed in the trailer. Aknosom is a Bird Wyvern that can change its shape. The Great Izuchi is another wyvern that attacks in groups of three. Finally, the Tetradon is a giant amphibian capable of completely crushing any Hunter.
Not only did we get a great glimpse of Monster Hunter Rise, but we also got the announcement of another brand new Monster Hunter Game. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The story seems to have a big emphasis on cultivating a Rathalos egg, as the population of these creatures is mysteriously dwindling. This game will release sometime in Summer 2021.
