How to Mod in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update

Throw some more mods in your modded-up game.

Since the release of the major update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, modernizing the graphics and features to fit into next-gen standards, players old and new have jumped into the beloved action-RPG for another adventure with Geralt. On its original release, The Witcher 3 modding community introduced countless ways to alter the game, from graphics, to extra quests and items, to UI overhauls, and all the other mods you typically see with these kinds of games. The Next-Gen update includes some of the most popular mods from creators and implements them into the core game files, though some players may still wish to use their favorite mods that didn’t make the cut. So, how do you mod in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update? We’ll have your answers below.

How to Mod in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update

For years, NexusMods has been one of the most prominent websites for game modding, and hosts tens of thousands of mods for a countless amount of different games. Back in the day, installing custom mods to your games could be a confusing process, which usually involved locating the correct mod folder, extracting files to it, editing some .ini files, etc. It was a mess. Thankfully, NexusMods has the Vortex Mod Manager to help make that process a breeze.

By creating an account on NexusMods, you can download the Vortex Mod Manager for all your modding needs. The Vortex Mod Manager is a client that recognizes your installed games and does all the heavy work for you once a mod is downloaded.

Once you’ve got Vortex installed, simply navigate back to the NexusMods Witcher 3 page and search for whatever mod you’d like to install. Once you find a mod, click on the Files page, and scroll down until you see Mod Manager Download. Clicking that will open Vortex, installing and enabling the mod for you.

Of course, with an update as drastic as the Next-Gen upgrade, it’s important to know which mods still remain compatible with the new version. Luckily, CD Projekt RED has compiled a list of approved mods you can still use in The Witcher 3. If you’re interested in a specific mod, it may be wise to check to see if it still works for the new version or not.
