How to Draw Art Posts in Splatoon 3

There's a report function so, you know, be nice

I haven’t played a ton of Splatoon in my life, but even though I’m a casual observer at best, I know what the true appeal of the series is. Yeah, I’m talking about drawings. While the feature truly shined on the Wii U (RIP), talented (and not-so talented) artists found their way to greatness on the Nintendo Switch. And of course, that feature is back in Splatoon 3. Here’s how it works, or at least how it worked in the Splatoon 3 Splatfest demo.

To draw an art post, you need to find the red mailbox in Splatoon 3’s main lobby area. Luckily it’s pretty easy to find, since you can simply head to the right once you spawn in Splatsville. For landmarks, you can find the red mailbox across the street from Man-o’-Wardrobe, or just to the left of Hotlantis. It’s pretty, like, right there.

You can have one drawing up at a time. You can choose to create a “general” Post, or do one specifically for a Splatfest assuming one is live. Once you have the Post-drawing interface up, here are the basic controls:

  • Erase – B
  • Draw – A
  • Draw/Erase Size – L and R
  • Zoom – X
  • Undo and Redo – ZL and ZR
  • Erase all – L3
  • Rotate drawing space – Y
  • Save and Quit – Minus
  • Post (to a linked Facebook or Twitter) – Plus

Once you have your art Post saved, other players will see it in their lobbies when they move close to your character. Posts from players can also appear as graffiti throughout the area, so you might see yours scribbled onto a wall or something!

As a reminder, this is how to draw art posts in Splatoon 3 as of the pre-release, limited-time demo. That demo is no longer playable of course, but we’re days away from launch as of this posting. If anything changes, we’ll update the post as necessary. We’ll find out when Splatoon 3 launches on September 9, 2022.
