Why are there remotes in the Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 Subreddit? 

Like any meme, there is an origin story, and since this remote meme has spiraled out of control, we just had to know. The journey into TV remotedom all began with a simple choice made by Reddit user ‘Shecky_SHabazz14’ when they took to the subreddit to compare their TV remote with that owned by Doctor Octopus in-game. After a few other Redditors chimed in, it was quickly noted that the remote in question was for a Samsung TV and is apparently very common. That’s where the craze began and it got predictably weird from here on out.

Many players went to use Shecky’s image to share their own remote contributions instead of their own screenshots and hilarity ensued:

The remote meme took off well beyond the photos listed above and even left Reddit altogether.
