With only a handful of months to go before video game fans are able to get their hands on the next generation of consoles, many are looking to decide which system they will be going with first. Microsoft has essentially laid everything out on the table, offering fans a good look at what the Xbox Series X is all about. Sony, however, hasn’t exactly been as forthcoming about the PlayStation 5, but it looks like we might finally be seeing a reveal in the very near future.
“Sources familiar with the company’s plans” have told VentureBeat that Sony plans to hold a reveal event on June 3rd that is focused on highlighting the upcoming PlayStation 5. In addition to this, Bloomberg is also reporting that Sony is planning a PS5 conference that could be taking place as early as next week, which would align with what VB’s sources have stated.
Quick follow-up to the PlayStation event news:
– Focus will be next-gen games running on PS5 hardware
– Don’t expect details on price or an exact date
– next event is a State Of Play scheduled for early August; focuses on next-gen and current-gen gameshttps://t.co/arDdXteAFJ pic.twitter.com/RBgdCt25yl— Nibel (@Nibellion) May 27, 2020
Of course, Sony has not made any sort of official announcement regarding the PlayStation 5 reveal. We do know a lot of what is powering the next-gen console, such as how the SSD is much faster than the PS4, what the DualSense controller looks like, and more. However, we still don’t know what the console itself looks like. In addition to this, we don’t know how much it will cost when it arrives this holiday season.
Sony noted in a recent financial report that the PlayStation 5 is still on track for a holiday 2020 release, despite the recent global impact of COVID-19. “Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to the part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season,” they said.

If Sony plans to hold a PlayStation 5 reveal event on June 3rd, there is a good chance that we will be hearing something more official in the next couple of days. It has been rumored that the reveal event could be featuring a solid first-party lineup in addition to the console itself, but nothing official has been mentioned by Sony yet. It may be exciting to think that by the end of next week, we could see what the PlayStation 5 is all about, but it’s also best to keep those feet grounded.
