Stalker 2: How To Defeat Poltergeist Enemies

Learn how to identify and defeat the invisible Poltergeist mutants in Stalker 2.

In Stalker 2, radioactive emissions are far from the only danger you will face. Bandits, rival factions, and deadly mutants all pose significant threats, with most of them seemingly hellbent on tearing you apart. Mutants, in particular, can be incredibly dangerous, especially those with unique abilities like invisibility—such as the Poltergeist. In this guide, we will explain what Poltergeists are and provide tips on how to defeat them in Stalker 2.

The Poltergeist in Stalker 2 is an invisible mutant that uses psi-abilities to levitate and hurl objects at you. Unlike Bloodsuckers, which briefly appear to deliver melee attacks before vanishing, the Poltergeist remains invisible until defeated.

This constant invisibility makes the Poltergeist a challenging enemy, especially in dark environments. However, once you understand how to fight it, the key is identifying its subtle shadowy, mist-like form and unloading as many bullets as possible into it.

Most players first encounter a Poltergeist when Richter sends them to the abandoned communications hub to get an access code for a secret door of the Sphere facility. This mission is assigned automatically after you give Ward Sensors to Richter during the Behind Seven Seals mission in Stalker 2.

Inside this facility, you will discover the aftermath of a deadly encounter—numerous fallen IPSF soldiers—and face the Wind Poltergeist enemy type.

This enemy’s attacks involve throwing small items, debris, and other objects at you. But if you observe closely, you can spot its glowing, mist-like orb.

The Poltergeist does not have a solid form but instead resembles a dense, floating gas that moves quickly. Your goal is to inflict maximum damage with each shot at this floating gas form before it escapes or attacks again.

The shotgun is one of the best weapons for taking down a Poltergeist in Stalker 2. Each time you fire, the creature will attempt to shield itself by levitating rubble, creating a barrier to protect its invisible form. Despite this, focusing on high-damage, rapid attacks is your best strategy to defeat it.

Make sure you are well-prepared with plenty of ammo and healing items before attempting to take down a Poltergeist in Stalker 2. It is a tough fight, but with the right preparation and approach, you can overcome it.

After spending about 30 hours playing Stalker 2, we have come across four types of Poltergeists: Wind, Fire, Electric, and Thunder. Each variant has unique traits that make them dangerous in different ways.

The Fire Poltergeist has the largest area of effect (AoE) attacks, making it particularly deadly if you are caught in its range. The Electric Poltergeist, on the other hand, deals the highest damage, especially if it manages to get too close to you.

In our experience so far, the Wind Poltergeist is the least threatening of the four in Stalker 2. However, even this variant should not be underestimated, as its attacks can still catch you off guard.

If we happen to find more Poltergeist enemies other than the four mentioned above, we will update this guide as required.

That is all you need to know about how to defeat Poltergeist enemies in Stalker 2. For more tips about the game, we recommend you read Kill Shah or Roosevelt in King of the Hill Mission, No Honor Among Thieves Walkthrough Guide, and the Best Mods for Stalker 2 on PC.
