Where Can I Upgrade My Tools in Mirthwood?

To upgrade your tools in Mirthwood, you must first purchase a Tool Kit from the Blacksmith in Brightoak. You can find the Blacksmith working outside his shop in the bottom left corner of the village. To get there, head into Brightoak and take the road leading south into the Murkwater Marsh. The Blacksmith’s shop is just to the left of that road.

Unfortunately, you cannot use the Blacksmith’s Shop until you complete a quest for him. Clayton has lost his precious Hammer, and it’s up to you to find it.

Where to Find the Blacksmith’s Hammer in Mirthwood

The Blacksmith unfortunately hit this thumb while smithing and, as a result, instinctively threw the Hammer as far away from him as he could. Thankfully, though, the tree the Hammer landed in is very close by. Head left from the Blacksmith, just outside his fence, and look toward the trees. There, just in front of the small pond, will be the Hammer.

The Blacksmith gave you a Bow when you accepted the quest, which you will need to dislodge the Hammer. To use the Bow, hold the trigger button down and move the cursor up to reach the tree tops. The white line represents the trajectory your arrow will follow. Release the arrow toward the Hammer to send it falling to the ground and pick it up before returning to Clayton.

Clayton will give you an Iron Bar as a reward for collecting his Hammer, and the Blacksmith will open the very next day. You can also keep the Bow he gave you!

How to Upgrade Tools in Mirthwood

The Blacksmith’s Anvil is accessible outside his shop day and night, in rain or shine. So you don’t have to worry about his shop being closed once the sun sets. The Anvil will be there for you whenever the mood to upgrade your tools strikes, even if Clayton isn’t. Interact with the Blacksmith or his Anvil to see all of the Tool Kits and wares he has to offer.

There is one Tool Kit available for each upgrade:

  • Iron Tool Kit: $750
  • Steel Tool Kit: $2000
  • Silver Tool Kit: $3000
  • Gold Tool Kit: $4000

Once you’ve got your Tool Kit in hand, you can head back to your farm or a Campsite and interact with the Workbench to craft an Anvil. An Anvil requires 15x Stone and 2x Iron Bars. Stone can be easily harvested by smashing rocks around your farm or the world with your Pickaxe. Iron Bars must be crafted at the Furnace with raw Iron Ore.

Place your Anvil anywhere on your farm and interact with it to build some tools. Hover over the tool you wish to upgrade. As long as you have the necessary Tool Kit in your inventory, along with the materials required to craft the tool, you will be free to make it.

Each tool requires 10x Bars of ore, one copy of the previously crafted tool, and a Tool Kit. With all of those items in your inventory, you are good to go.
