Difference Between Gley and Ultimate Gley in The First Descendant

Are Ultimate versions overhyped?

The First Descendant features a huge roster of Descendants, some of which have Ultimate versions, like Gley and Ultimate Gley. Gley is already a powerful Descendant because of her buffs, including her Frenzied State. Players say the Ultimate Gley is even better, but is it? Here are all the differences between Gley and Ultimate Gley in The First Descendant.

What Are the Differences Between Gley and Ultimate Gley in The First Descendant?

Gley and Ultimate Gley have the same abilities, with absolutely no difference in each skill’s baseline stats. Apart from cosmetically looking different, the two Descendants have no game-changing differences. However, they are treated as separate Descendants. If you use and level up Gley, changing to Ultimate Gley will force you to start from scratch again.

However, building your Ultimate Gley won’t be as tiresome as building Gley. Gley starts with only two socket types engraved into its modules. To add more module socket types, you need to use Crystallization Catalyst to apply new socket types to save more module capacity, resetting your Descendant’s level in the process.

Since Ultimate Gley starts with four engraved socket types, you don’t have to reset her progress that often. Apart from this difference, they also have different stats. UItimate Gley has slightly better baseline stats than Gley. You can see the difference in this table:

StatsGleyUltimate Gley
Defense2,3254,185
Max Shield00
Shield Recovery Out of Combat00
Max MP00
Max HP1,6511,651

Gley doesn’t have Shield or MP, which makes her uniquely different from other Descendants. She compensates by having more Defense and Max HP, but this also makes Ultimate Gley’s enhanced stats more pronounced because of that 2,000 Defense stat difference.

However, Gley and Ultimate Gley’s HP is the same, which is great because some of her builds scale with HP. Even if the Defense stat has a big gap, it isn’t that big.

How Big is the Difference Between Gley and Ultimate Gley?

The difference is essentially nonexistent after knowing that Gley and Ultimate Gley have different baseline stats. However, there is one big difference between the two versions: Ultimate Gley’s exclusive Transcendent skill modules. Here’s a list of all the Transcendent skill modules for both Descendants:

  • Demonic Modification (Ultimate Gley exclusive module)
  • Explosive Life (Ultimate Gley exclusive module)
  • Blood and Iron
  • Predator Instinct
  • Massive Sanguification
  • Super Senses

Demonic Modification will make your Unique Weapon (Massacre skill) consume HP based on your True Aim’s duration. It also adds additional damage proportional to the HP you have consumed, and attacking the weak points of enemies gives you the chance to recover HP. However, it also sets your Unique Weapon to a fixed Fire Rate, which is bad unless you have a build in mind for it.

Explosive Life gives you more Life Spheres and Detonates all nearby Life Spheres to defeat enemies instead of gaining HP. This module seems like it can have some potential when it comes to clearing Infiltration Operations or Special Operations (clearing hordes of enemies), but it isn’t as strong as Gley’s most used Transcendent modules like Massive Sanguification or Super Senses.

Since Gley performs extremely well without the exclusive mods, there is almost no difference between Gley and Ultimate Gley. You can’t say the same for other Descendants like Bunny and Ultimate Bunny because they have game-changing differences regarding their exclusive Transcendent modules.

They plan on adding Ultimate versions for all Descendants, so it is only a matter of time before that roster doubles. Make sure to secure those other Descendants before they start releasing more.
