What Are Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant? – Answered

Training dummies that give loot!

Encrypted Vaults are hidden treasures in The First Descendant. They drop rare materials and resources that are mostly needed for endgame activities. These Encrypted Vaults make these materials much harder to acquire, but if you know where to find them, what they drop, and how to hack them properly, things will get easier. So, what are Encrypted Vaults in the First Descendant?

What Are Encrypted Vaults For in The First Descendant?

Encrypted Vaults look a lot like robotic training dummies. They come in different colors, and you need Codes to just have an attempt to open them. These Encrypted Vaults have three variations:

  • Encrypted Storage Box
  • Precise Encrypted Vault
  • Ultraprecise Encrypted Vault

All three types will also spawn on either normal or hard mode difficulties. Each type will require a specific “Code” to open them, and these Codes drop from any monsters in the game. The type of Codes depends on the difficulty. Code Analyzers drop on normal difficulty, while Code Breakers drop on hard difficulty.

Each Code Analyzer or Breaker has three different rarities:

  • Code for Encrypted Storage Boxes
  • Precision Code for Precise Encrypted Vaults
  • Ultra-precision Code for Ultraprecise Encrypted Vaults

You need to have three kinds of Codes to farm a specific difficulty. This is because the type of Encrypted Vaults that spawn are completely random. If you find one and you don’t have the right Code, it would be a waste, especially because finding these Encrypted Vaults is extremely tedious.

How to Find Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant

To find Encrypted Vaults, you’ll have to use your Ecive Scan. Using the Ecive Scan will notify you if any Encrypted Vaults are nearby. If you look at the first image above, you will notice some vibration echoing from the hips of your Descendant when you use the Ecive Scan. This means that there is an Encrypted Vault nearby.

If you look at the second image, there is a faded holographic icon on the ground. This means that there is always an Encrypted Vault in the vicinity, and you’ll need to find it. However, if you use the Ecive Scan and the vibration isn’t there, the Encrypted Vault might not have spawned yet.

When you use the Ecive Scan, a pinging sound also tells you if you are looking in the right direction or far away from the vault. A high-pitched sound means you are looking in the right direction, but a low-pitched sound means you are not facing the right direction.

If the high-pitched sound gets louder, you are getting closer to the vault. The Ecive Scan isn’t proximity-based because you can be near the vault but hear a low-pitched sound. It just tells you if you are looking in the right direction. These Encrypted Vaults respawn relatively fast, but you can also switch from location to location to quicken things up.

How to Finish Code Hack in The First Descendant

Once you start hacking into the Encrypted Vault, you’ll enter a minigame. You’ll see a circle in the middle with a “green” zone and a pointer. The circle will rotate, and your goal is to hit the green zone perfectly. The button you must press may change when you successfully finish a round.

The minigame will get harder depending on the type of Encrypted Vault. Ultraprecise Encrypted Vaults will require at least five rounds, and the green zone will be extremely tight. There is a time limit below, so you also need to do it quickly. If you try to time it on every first rotation, you can have one or two mistakes before the timer runs out.

If you make a mistake, the timer will get a penalty, depending on your confidence in hitting the timing. Using the Enzo will make things a piece of cake. However, he isn’t easily unlocked.

Note: If someone else opens the Encrypted Vault, you can also get the materials inside.

These Encrypted Vaults contain rare materials, specifically ones used to research Crystallization Catalysts and Energy Activators. They drop materials like Mixed Energy Residue and Conductive Metallic Foil.
