How to Assign Pals Jobs at Your Base in Palworld

You're the boss, Boss.

Why waste your own precious time doing hard labor in Palworld when you can force cute, innocent creatures to slave away for you? Assigning tasks to the Pals on your Base frees up a lot of your time, and you’ll want to get each Pal working right away.

How to Make Your Pals Work in Palworld

Once you have obtained new Pals in Palworld, you will be able to assign them tasks and set them to work at your Base. To do this, you will first have to access your Palbox and select Palbox Management Menu. From here, you can see all of the Pals that you have at your disposal. Click on a Pal and move it down to the Pals at the base section directly under your Box. This will immediately spawn the Pal to your Base, and from here, you can direct them to a certain job.

Each Pal will have certain Skills that allow it to take on specific tasks. For example, a Chikipi has the Egg Layer Partner Skill and will provide you with Eggs. Other Pals will have Passive Skills, such as Workaholic, which means that they will work harder and take fewer breaks than their more relaxed counterparts. All Pals will be able to perform tasks such as Crafting and Construction, but there will be certain jobs that require certain Pals, such as crafting Ingots at a furnace, which will require a Fire Pal, such as Rooby or Foxparks.

Assigning Tasks to Your Pals in Palworld

You can manually assign Pals to a specific task by picking them up with the displayed button prompt, which is X if you are playing with a Controller or Steam Deck and F if you are playing on PC, and then throwing them at the desired work location with the same button. A notification in the form of a lightbulb over their head will illustrate that they understand the required task and will begin carrying it out accordingly.

When you wish for a Pal to move on from the designated job, all you need to do is pick them up once more and throw them away from the workstation. Either to another job to hard assign them to something new or to an open area of the base where they will begin to search for something new automatically.

However, if you do not manually assign tasks to your Pals, they will still find a job to do at the Base automatically from the available jobs, and therefore, it may not necessarily be the task that you wish to be done. If there is no job that they can currently do, they will stop work until they can begin a task. Auto assignment can be useful when you are away from your Base as it allows it to continue to run, but it is not always the most efficient. So, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on what your Pals are working on and reassign as necessary.

Pals will only work at a workstation that is completely within the boundaries of your Base. Fortunately, this is clearly illustrated with the highlighted blue line. If you are struggling to get a Pal to work at a certain location, check to make sure that it hasn’t accidentally been constructed out of the confines of the Base. If so, building it in a better location will rectify the problem.

Hey, did you know that you can actually breed different types of Pals in Palworld? It’s a really cool feature that lets you combine the traits of two Pals to create a brand-new one.

How to Optimize Your Pal’s Tasks

Because Pals have their own set of specific skills, you’ll want to make sure you’re placing Pals in your Base while keeping in mind the available tasks you need to complete. There’s no point in keeping a fire-type Pal in your Base if you don’t need the furnace running, for example—that Pal will have nothing to do and just lose sanity and nourishment without any work output to show for it.

When looking at a Pal in your Palbox, make sure you check their Work Suitability and their level for the work they’re suitable for. A Pal may be suitable for multiple tasks, but if it has a higher level in one work category than another, then it will be better suited for tasks in that particular category. For example, a Caprity has level 2 in Planting and level 1 in Farming, meaning it will be much more efficient when assigned to planting tasks, so you’ll want to point it in the direction of one of your plantations.

Here’s one interesting Tip: Did you know that Pals tend to focus on whichever task is on their pathway as they wander from the Palbox when they first spawn? You can optimize auto-assignments by placing the tasks you want to do first closest to the Palbox.

You can also use a Pal straight from your Party to work on a task while you’re hanging around your Base. Throw your Pal’s sphere at whatever task you want it to complete (as long as they’re suited for it), and they’ll get to work right away. Unlike other Pals in your Base, Pals from your party will always stick to the task assigned to them and never wander off to take a break. This can make them some of the most efficient workers, but you’ll want to make sure you keep an eye on their nourishment and sanity as they won’t take care of themselves like other Pals will.

Dictating Pal Work Speed in Palworld

Once you are level 15, you can unlock the Monitoring Stand via the Technology menu, and this will allow you to take more control over how hard your Pals work at your Base. You can select different options to force your Pals to be Normal, Hard Working, or Super Hardworking. Of course, the latter is incredibly inhumane and will result in fast Sanity and Hunger depletion. Normal will allow for happier and healthier Pals, but with a slower completion rate whilst Super Hard Working will get your Base upgraded fast, but your Pals will exhaust easily and become sick and wounded.

Here’s another Tip for your Palworld: Catching a large number of Pals and having them readily available in your Palbox will allow you to rotate exhausted Pals out for rested Pals. This means that you can continuously work your Pals at the higher Hard Working settings and not suffer from any downtime once they become exhausted.

Working your Pals to the bone is a sure-fire way to make them feel sick and depressed. I’m not going to tell you if it’s right or wrong, but you’ll want to have various healing items on you to make sure that your Pals can continue to work at whatever level you demand of them.

Tips to Keep Your Pals at One Job

The following steps can help you ensure that your Pals remain focused on a particular task:

  1. Use your partner Pal to perform a task: Throw a Pal from your party at a job that you want finished. Partner Pals will only run away from it if you assign them somewhere else, throw out a different party member, or leave your base.
  2. Exploit Pals with one single skill: Sometimes, a Pal that can work multiple jobs will get distracted by other things to work on. So if you want a Pal in your base to only work on one task, you should make sure it can only do that task.
