It’s a shame that we may never see the true vision that Junction Point had in mind with Epic Mickey. The company had two tries now, with the original game and last year’s follow-up, but won’t be around to try a third.
Disney confirmed today that they have closed the doors to the development house, with whom long-time gaming mastermind Warren Spector worked so closely with. Disney states that the move is part of its continuing effort to adapt with the changing game scene.
“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which includes the closure of Junction Point Studios,” said a Disney spokesperson. “We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with (the Epic Mickey games).”
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, which came out across the board last year for various consoles, turned out to be a failure, with a number of negative reviews and only 270,000 copies sold over the holiday season – which certainly wasn’t good news for Disney.
Spector has opted not to continue hanging around Disney and is seeking other business ventures.
