It’s getting into December now, and while it may seem like a lot of the retail releases are winding down with Far Cry 3 coming this Tuesday, there’s still plenty of downloadable goodness coming our way. Let’s recap the past week and see what all’s come out…
PlayStation Network
Leading the PSN charge is Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault ($19.99), which takes the familiar sci-fi action franchises and adds a strategic element, as you either invade or protect bases using a number of doo-dad defense mechanisms and cool weapons. This one’s more fun with friends, as you fight to take over certain areas of planets, and it has that good ol’ R & C charm.
Sega also released a triple pack of fighting games, which we’ll cover a bit later in this article in the Xbox Live Arcade section.
As for the full retail titles, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon ($19.99) is now available, providing a fresh take on Namco’s aerial combat series; while Activision released Men In Black: Alien Crisis ($39.99), a game that ties in with the recently released Men In Black III on DVD and Blu-Ray. You can also snag a Dead Or Alive 5 bundle ($59.99) which includes the full game and various costume packs.
As for demos, both Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Lego Lord of the Rings have playable demos, and are both worth checking out. If you’re a fan of Mass Effect 3, you can also snag the new Omega DLC pack ($14.99).
Not much came out for the Vita this week, but you can snag the PSP all-ages game Phineas and Ferb Across the Second Dimension ($19.99), if you’re a fan of the show. Several games also received some fairly good markdowns, ranging from $17.99 to $44.99.
PSN Pick of the Week: Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. This one’s bound to grow in popularity, especially for such a reasonable budget price.
Xbox Live Arcade
Sega’s released a three-pack of fighting games, including Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and Sonic the Fighters ($4.99 apiece, also on PSN), which have been retouched with good high-definition transfers, online play and plenty of options. If you prefer a Kinect-ready experience, you can skate with your friends in Red Bull Crashed Ice ($4.99).
As for add-ons, Mass Effect 3: Omega is ready for download. If you prefer a free demo, Lego Lord of the Rings is available for Xbox Live Gold members.
Then there are the full Games On Demand releases, including Silent Hill HD Collection ($29.99), Transformers: Fall of Cybertron ($59.99), Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ($29.99) and Warriors: Legends of Troy ($29.99).
Xbox Live Pick of the Week: Sonic the Fighters. It’s just such a goofy fighting experience, you have to play it to believe it.
Nintendo eShop
No new Wii U releases this week, sadly, but there are a few other games for download…
For the 3DS, you can grab Aero Porter ($4.99), the latest from Yoot Saito and Level 5, where you solve puzzles through aviation means. If you prefer something a bit more classic, the NES version of Pac-Man ($4.99) is also within reach.
As far as DSiWare goes, you’ve got Invasion of the Alien Blobs ($1.99), where you use the stylus to pop alien blobs before they take over the planet. Finally, Bloons TD 4 ($4.99) mixes balloon action and tower defense…whatever balloon action is, anyway.
eShop Pick of the Week: Slim pickings, but you really can’t go wrong with Pac-Man.
See you next time for another Getting Down-Loaded!
