How to Enter the Hermit’s Cave in Lies of P

A cryptic entry indeed

While making your way through Chapter VIII in Lies of P, you will eventually find a locked entrance next to a guy wearing a cute dog mask. The man named Hugo speaks to you about the Hermit’s Cave, but he doesn’t know how to open it just yet. Turns out you can’t do it during your first visit, and you’ll have to come back a little bit later to do that. Here’s how to enter the Hermit’s Cave in Lies of P.

In order to lift the locked gate, you will need to decipher the Rusty Cryptic Vessel. This will only be possible after reaching Chapter IX and revisiting the now even more twisted city of Krat. After you reach the Collapsed Street Stargazer, go through the apartment and fight your way against the various alchemists. They’re powerful enemies for this point of the game, so beware.

After you get to the top of the house, drop down to grab this chest displayed right here. This is another Krat Supply Box that will expand Polendina’s shop when you come back to the Hotel.

Speak with the puppet attendant to buy the Rusty Cryptic Vessel for the low price of 1000 Ergo. Now ask Venigni to decipher it and he’ll show you a very obvious place: the bridge right in front of the Hermit’s Cave. Head to its Stargazer in Chapter VIII (Barren Swamp Bridge) and you’ll find that the door is no more. Time to see what’s inside!

The Hermit’s Cave is a huge area teeming with monsters and has various wall traps just like the ones you’ve seen in the St. Frangelico Cathedral or the post-Grand Exhibition areas, so be careful. Fortunately, there’s even a Stargazer in the middle of it, so do your best to reach it in one piece and you should be fine for the rest of your trip.

After going through various monsters and some deceiving bridges that can make you fall easily if you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself in a room with another of those huge defensive Petrification Disease monsters, so do your best to conquer it. Long-range weapons and tools can make for an easier time dealing with it.

After you’re done with it, you can finally get the final reward for the Cave inside a safe, which includes the Black Cat’s Hunting Apparel and an extra Quartz for your collection. Make sure to activate it in the P-Organ as soon as you can!
