The long-awaited return of FromSoftware to one of their oldest series has finally happened, and we now have a game from this world-famous Japanese studio that isn’t Souls. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be released on August 25 for a wide range of platforms, including next-gen and last-gen consoles, as well as PC – but you’ve come here to find out how this mecha action works on PS5. Let’s learn more about Fire of Rubicon’s performance on Sony’s current hardware.
Does Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon Work Well on PS5?
So, does the sequel/reboot of the mecha combat franchise with a very rich history work on PlayStation 5 properly? Well, the answer is yes! Unlike FromSoftware’s previous game Elden Ring which had a few performance issues at launch, many early reviews and impressions from the new Armored Core confirm that this title performs much better.

Already in the launch version, Armored Core 6 works extremely smoothly on PS5 without any glitches or bugs, as confirmed by the authors of early reviews. In the PS5 version of Fires of Rubicon, there are two video modes to select: Performance and Quality.
- Performance mode run is smooth 60fps with supposedly some kind of a dynamic resolution and it is for sure the best way to play this fast action game, especially if you intend to play it on a big TV screen.
- Quality mode bumps up the resolution (up to 3840 x 2160) but it can make the frame rate sometimes drop in more demanding action scenes while still aiming for 60. Also, this mode enables RayTracing effects, but only in the Garage.
There is no doubt that the new Armored Core is excellently optimized for the PS5, especially when compared to previous FromSoftware games. Even on last-generation consoles, performance is stable but with an fps limit of 30 and lower resolutions.
However, PC gamers who have built very powerful machines will be able to get up to 120fps, and although some masterfully optimized games on PS5 also have 120fps modes, Armored Core does not have it for now – but even so, can’t say many bad things about the PS5 performance.
