Baldur’s Gate 3: What Happens if You Kill Mizora – Answered (BG3)

Let me make the mistake for you

As you traverse the fleshy tunnels that run beneath Moonrise Towers, you’ll stumble upon Wyll’s patron Mizora. But what happens if you opt to annihilate Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldur’s Gate 3: What Happens if You Kill Mizora Explained

If you kill Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3, she’ll vanish from the pod. Wyll will then be consumed by fire and be dragged to Avernus. Mizora isn’t even permanently dead, meaning that Wyll is still bound to his contract. Wyll will be permanently removed from your party. There’s no way to get him back.

Mizora might be one of the most unpleasant characters you’ll meet in Baldur’s Gate, which is quite a feat. It’s not hard to understand why players want to annihilate Mizora in BG3, but there isn’t much to gain from it.

Once you recruit Wyll and enter Act 2, she’ll approach you with a barbed request in your camp. She’ll request that you free Zarie’l “asset”, starting the quest Rescue Zariel’s Asset.

You’ll find Zariel’s Asset after following Ketheric Thorm into the Mindflayer Colony in Moonrise Tower. There, Mizora will be trapped in a Mindflayer Pod. She’s Zariel’s Asset. Once you find her, you’ll get two options. You can open the pod or kill Mizora.

If Karlach is in your party, she’ll be furious with you. And disappointed in herself that she let it happen.

If you killed Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3, the only silver lining, if it can be called that, is that the pile of ashes Wyll leaves behind will still have all the items he had in his inventory when he died.

What Happens if You Spare Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you opt to spare Mizora, Wyll will negotiate the end of his pact with her. She’ll agree, and he’ll be free in six months. That sounds like a long time when the world might end, but it’s better than nothing. Likewise, she’ll appear later on in Act 3 as an option to briefly romance and to antagonize you at your camp.

You can save Mizora by breaking up the pod by passing a strength skill check or passing an Arcana check to understand the Illithid controls beside Mizora’s pod. This is similar to how you recruited Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Still, it’s a good idea to skip out on that option and just let her go. Doing so will let you keep the smoothest party member alive, and you’ll get to continue with his personal companion quest. And Wyll has quite a few side quests in Act 3. Note that although this is not one of BG3’s time-sensitive side quests, you can’t just leave her there without consequences. Leaving or annihilating Mizora has the same outcome: Wyll will die and permanently leave your party.

Can You Permanently Kill Mizora in BG3?

Yes, you can permanently kill Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 using two specific methods: reducing her intelligence to zero or petrifying her.

  1. Reducing Intelligence to Zero:
    • Use a wizard with the Illithid power Ability Drain to reduce Mizora’s Intelligence.
    • Follow up with a cleric or druid casting the spell Contagion: Mindfire to confuse and damage her.
    • Finally, use Absorb Intellect to drop her Intelligence to zero. She will teleport away and then die upon returning.
  2. Petrification:
    • Cast the spell Flesh to Stone or Flesh to Gold on Mizora. She will undergo Constitution saving throws.
    • If she fails all three saving throws, she will become a permanent statue and die.

Both methods bypass her “Zariel’s Protection” and can have significant impacts on Wyll’s questline, so it’s recommended to complete his storyline first.

What Happens if You Petrify or Annihilate Mizora in BG3?

Annihilating Mizora using this method doen’t cause Wyll to be dragged to Avernus, but it can have the following impacts on Wyll’s questline:

  1. Quest Disruption: Using these methods can break Wyll’s questline, preventing its completion. Wyll may not acknowledge Mizora’s death and can still reference hunting her.
  2. Hostility: If the method involving Contagion: Mindfire is not executed perfectly, Wyll and Duke Ulder Ravengard (if present) may become hostile, leading to their permanent removal from the party.
  3. Unacknowledged Actions: Even if Mizora is killed, the game might not reflect this in Wyll’s dialogues or quests, causing narrative inconsistencies.
